I've been wanting to get an old P4 system of mine running Windows XP on the internet for quite some time. The thing is that I switched internet providers a while back that switched my internet security from WPA to WPA2 which I have not gotten it connected since. I know that there's an update for it but I forget which one that is, and I believe last time I tried that update it didn't do anything. But a redownload would be nice. As for a browser google has become somewhat unreliable for XP, even though I used it years after it was discontinued a better one would be great ..read more

Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme not detected

So my windows xp’s sound wasn’t working, and I thought that the sound device on the motherboard wasn’t working, so I installed the X-Fi Xtreme sound card. Still no sound, so I went to the website and installed the files via usb (this pc has no internet) and when I try to open the control panel for it, it says that the device isn’t detected. It’s plugged in correctly (there’s no PCI-E port so it just goes into the motherboard) and I’ve cleaned the contacts with an alcohol swab. Still not working and I have no idea what to do ..read more

So I've been trying to get a machine up and running with windows xp. I got a new hard drive for it, but I failed to realize my copy of XP is meant to be an upgrade, and the hard drive for this one is completely brand new. Thing is, I don't have any copies of the actual windows xp os. Is it possible to get it onto my machine via usb flash drive? If so, how should I go about doing it ..read more

I have an old custom Windows XP computer that I built a while back and I recently put an Nvidia graphics card in it to boost its performance but I don't have a manager for it. The onboard graphics has its own manager installed but its made by VIA/S3G which is incompatible. I once did get a manager installed with this same card with Windows 7 but I can't remember where I got the manager from. Any links to download one would be appreciated. Also the specific card I have is an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X ..read more

Win XP Pro SP3 Install - "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer."

I've read several threads about this issue, but, unfortunately, none of them seem to have a clear solution. The machine in question is a circa 2013 Dell Precision M4700 Mobile Workstation (Laptop) that was, until a couple of months ago, running via Win 11. As this machine is now needed to run an old [but powerful] 32-bit media authoring utility that was written exclusively for Win XP, we initially attempted to create a clone copy of the Win 11 OS and the other applications on the machine. Long story short, this started a chain of events that lead to us to basically gut the machine by replacin ..read more

Including subfolders in Device Manager in XP

When adding drivers from the "Device Manager" in Windows 7 or Windows 10, I can select to include subfolders when specifying the location of the drivers. The "Device Manager" in Windows XP lacks this option to include subfolders and if I do not know which driver is missing, when specifying the location of the drivers, I must manually enter each path to the folder with drivers. I installed all the drivers, but I would prefer to have some external program or a way to take into account subfolders if I formatted the disk in the future or purchased a device with missing drivers. In the "system reg ..read more
