Have not posted for a while. Previous post explained my fondness (obsession?) for the Thinkpad T42, which I still believe, in terms of form factor and ergonometics, was 20+ years ahead of its time. At one point I had over 15 T42s running XP in a network, and could take them apart almost blindfolded. The T42 maxes out ram at 2 gbs and, even with an Ebay-upgraded (compatible) processor, was sluggish at web browsing (but great for word processing and other tasks.). The bottleneck was, of...

China catching up pretty fast. The Loongson CPU is equivalent to an Intel 10th gen Core.
It's like the GDP give China a few more years to catch up to Intel then possibly exceed them within a decade or two.
Plus Intel/AMD are FINISHED / KAPUT in China d/t the recent blanket bans placed on them by the Chinese government!

I have a school computer that I use daily, it originally out of the box came with Windows 11 which I use on my home computer. I decided to customize the laptop and install Windows eXPerience, its great but its still pretty buggy, I hate how my screen brightness key does not work, heck, even settings for brightness don't work, and shows a lot of W10 in some cracks. I'm looking at legacy update, and I wont try it yet. I mean I would like to use service pack 1 or 2 but they don't get support...

Basically, from now the only devices you can buy in China with an Intel and AMD CPU are consumer devices. China has officially banned these companies from supplying government computers and telecom network equipment.
As for me I don't ever plan on buying another Intel/AMD machine.
These past few years, I have stocked up many Intel CPUs/machines to run old school games. And those purchases were the last time me dealing with Intel!!
China already released a mini-PC with Loongson CPU that...

Is there a site or compilation with all Windows XP updates in non-english languages? (Home Version)
I can't determine from their site if legacyupdate.net provides all updates in other languages. But I'm also thinking it would be best with a package for offline-install ..read more

Hi,
I’m trying to repair a PC that’s built into a scientific instrument.
It’s running Windows XP.
The motherboard has the following connections excluding power:
Hard drive - IDE
DVD - IDE
Thermal printer - parallel port
Touch screen - VGA port & COM2 header
2 x USB connections to the instrument
1 serial port to the instrument
DDR333 512MB RAM
It also has a PCI modem for some reason.
The problem I initially had was that it kept rebooting almost...

Hi all. Running into an issue with using a USB Flash on my Dell XP Desktop. It's a computer I don't use much. I want to move files off of it to a Flash drive. I have 2 new drives that work fine on my laptops. They show as exFat. However, when I plug them in to my XP computer and try to move files, I get a message that the disk is not formatted and asks if I want to do that. Properties show it as RAW, not exfat. But, only on the XP computer. So I assume the issue is with that device. Any...
