If you want to see changes in anything the way that you speak about it has a monumental impact on what you experience, even in parenting. Want to see a change in your child's behaviors? Changing the way you speak about those behaviors is one of the first and crucial steps. In this episode, Khia shares the way that the words you speak and the beliefs that you hold about your children and your experiences with them changes the way you interact with them and how they see themselves way beyond the current moment. 30. Kids Deserve Respect Too
Notes by Khia

It's so interesting when I talk to adults about respecting children it's like I'm speaking a foreign language or something. If you do not show your children respect how do they learn how to look for it in other relationships and interactions? If their own parents do not believe they are worthy of respect (what you're saying each time I say respect kids and you choose not to) why would they expect respect from others? It starts with you. They are people too! Devotional Follow on IG Rising Above IG Facebook Group www.notesbykhia.com Contact Me: Have a question or topic you would like to hear ..read more

29. Mental Health in the Black Community: Real or Made Up?
Notes by Khia

If I had $10 for every time I've heard someone say, "we didn't have all that back in our day" when I talk about children's mental health among minority adults... We tend to avoid or dismiss what we don't understand. But, are we really doing our young people any justice by expecting them to just ignore their feeling like past generations or are we really doing them a disservice? Leaving them isolated in their feelings doesn't seem like a great idea to me... Want more information on student mental health? Often times as parents your children can trigger unhealed parts of yourself. This may be the reason you find yourself lashing out at them and getting so angry about their behaviors. In this episode I teach you how to determine if that is happening, how it typically plays out, how it can be harmful for your child, and how to fix it. Have questions? 24. Is This A Phase? The Power of Love and Acceptance for LGBTQ+ Youth
Notes by Khia

It seems like more and more youth are taking on (or taking off) labels that maybe you're not used to hearing.  I was joined by LGBTQ+ advocate, Jennifer Boudrye, to discuss what is going on with our youth and how we, as the adults, can show up for them.  According to the 2022 report conducted by The Trevor Project, a widely known advocacy agency for LGBTQ+ youth, "73% of LGBTQ+ youth experience anxiety" and 58% of those youth experience depression.  Being aware that this is still a hot/taboo topic particularly when it comes to youth, this podcast episode is not to debate what is ..read more
