Where to get a Coffee Flight in Edmonton

There are two kinds of flights I like… travel flights and coffee flights! I’ve noticed a recent uptick with cafes offering coffee flights in Edmonton and I think it’s such a great concept. Whether you are someone who likes to try a variety of drinks or you’re looking to figure out what your go-to drink on their menu is, a flight gives you the perfect opportunity to sample a couple of different drinks at the same time, without the need to pay extra. The cafes I’ve visited have all offered 3-4 drinks in their flight, served as a smaller portion. Normally it equates to 1-2 regular sized drinks. H ..read more

There’s been an influx of new Korean restaurants over the last few months and included in those openings was another Korean BBQ restaurant! Considering how Edmonton does not have a ton of Korean BBQ options to start with, this is a welcome addition. Let’s chat about Makchang Dodook! Makchang Dodook is a chain from South Korea, with over 130 locations worldwide. The Edmonton location marks the first one in Canada. Makchang translates to grilled intestine and Dodook means thief. Hence, when you are dining at Makchang Dodook, you’ll notice their branding has many “jail-like” elements and wanted p ..read more

Calling all noodle soup lovers, you must try crossing-the-bridge-noodle-soup if you haven’t already! This noodle soup variation originates from the Yunnan province in China. For me, crossing-the-bridge-noodle-soup is like a mini hot pot experience. Flavourful broth is served piping hot in a large pot and accompanied with a variety of toppings/ingredients. Upon being served, you have all the ingredients “cross the bridge” into the pot – i.e. put all ingredients into the pot along with your rice noodles (often times with unlimited refills) and enjoy! Here are 3 spots where you can find Crossing ..read more

Edmonton is catching up with bigger cities when it comes to the introduction of well-loved and trendy food items. The most recent addition is Fuwa Fuwa Pancakes, a franchise originating from Toronto that serves up Japanese pancakes! Japanese pancakes are sometimes coined as “soufflé” pancakes because of their distinct airy qualities. Compared to the traditional American pancake, Japanese soufflé pancake are softer, lighter and have a little bounce to them. Fuwa Fuwa translates to “fluffy fluffy” and that is really the best way to describe these delicate desserts. The fluffiness comes as a resu ..read more

If you’re in search of a local cafe to check out, head to Caffe Sole. This minimalistic, cozy and modern cafe is located on 72 Ave, off of 99th street, and has a large menu of drinks which feature their artisan-crafted Mexican espresso, tea, or cacao. In addition to that, they also have some delicious bakery items and sandwiches. I’m a big fan of their space and offerings – both drinks and food! At this point, I think I’ve made my way through a good chunk of their menu so thought it was about time I shared what some of my favourites are on the blog. Caffe Sole is family-owned and run by Jersen ..read more

In the mood for some Japanese? Edmonton has its fair share of really great izakaya spots to check out but if you’re looking for a new-er spot to enjoy, I recommend Damso Izakaya! They’re situated on Whyte Ave and have a menu that is quite unique and tasty. I especially love that I can come here for a good and filling meal, without feeling like I spent way too much on shareable dishes. Their portions are well-sized and fairly priced, win-win! On the menu, you’ll find izakaya staples – fried items, sushi, sashimi, some stirfry dishes, etc. They also have a good selection of drinks as well. Here ..read more
