I am helping someone close to me acquire business insurance for their small business and am looking for a reliable insurer(s) to go with. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to go with and/or who to avoid? Has anyone had any positive/negative claims experience that they care to share? Any helpful advice would be most welcome. Thanks in advance. Statistics: Posted by choclover — Jun 6th, 2024 6:25 pm ..read more

Has anyone used these guys for their small business insurance needs? Just in the process of helping a friend with finding a good insurer and wasn't sure if we could find someone with real-life experience here. Any feedback is most appreciated. Thanks. Hi everyone, I've been having my Opco and there's residual cash so I want to invest them in Index ETF. How should I set up a Holdco to invest passively? is the below correct? 1. Incorporate Federal again for this Holdco. 2. Document the share structure internally (i.e. Holdco owns 100% of the Opco). 3. Open another business bank account for the Holdco, along with a brokerage account. 4. Transfer cash from Opco to Holdco then invest. Are the above correct? Thanks a lot! Hi. I currently work part time for an employer and I am classified as an independent contractor. I made $10k and issued a T4A. I don't see myself making more than $15k in a given year in the future. There's no source deductions on my paycheque. Do I need a GST number? All the equipment and uniforms are supplied by my employer. There are around 80 people working with this employer. I don't do business with clients, the owner does all of that. The workplace is the same address all the time. I don't travel to different workplaces. I'm not sure why the owner classifies us as independent contr ..read more

Hi all, How should a corporation (CPCC) set up so that dividends can be split (i.e. TOSI compliant)? In a nutshell, sibling 1 owns and controls most of the corporation. Sibling 2 and both parents willing and able to be involved so that dividends can be tax optimized within the family (meeting legal criteria). There is a strong level of trust and involvement within the family This is for a traditional business that only sells goods, no professional services After looking up the TOSI exceptions, here's my basic understanding/plan: - Parent 1 and Parent 2: hold 10% voting shares each, but in ..read more

Hello All, first and foremost I'd like to thank the community for the information shared on several related posts, which I'm still learning from. I'm a new Canadian coming originally from South America, so forgive me if I don't have extensive knowledge of Canadian/Québécois law. I'm currently employed full time Canada (IT) and I still keep good ties with my previous employer of 10+ years in S/Am; recently they offered me to pursue the software development I did back then remotely on a contracting basis, for which I'm assuming I'd need to setup a company. The deal they're offering me has the p ..read more

Tax Filing Corporate no Statements

Hi This might sound odd. But for years I have filed my corporate taxes with my accountant--using my bookkeeping numbers. This year I have a new accountant at the same company and he wants all of my statements etc. I do not feel comfortable providing these. If push comes to shove and I need to find a different accountant, does anyone have a recommendation? It is a BC corporation, but the firm I am using is based out of Toronto. Thank you for any help *I know many people will say "just share your statements" or "you have to share them". But that is not my question. Statistics: Posted by Ellio ..read more
