Hey I’m Eric,
I’m a software developer working in the IoT space focusing mostly on BLE, WiFi, and cellular devices.
I’m starting this thread to practice getting a little more comfortable talking about my projects as I try to transition into consulting full time.

A bit over a month ago I restarted my tiny-hardware hacking with the goal to build an open source RF tag to track birds. The tag should be able to collect some sensor data and transmit the data over RF. The whole thing is supposed to weigh as little as possible, the goal being sub 1 gram including battery, waterproofing, and harness. The use of the tag would be in the context of the Motus int’l bird tracking network and it would be used by ornithologists (not me torturing backyard birds).
I’ll follow up with a background post (that’s going to be long) but the target feature set for the first t ..read more

Hello everyone, I’m Darshan Hiranandani, I’m interested in learning more about the process of licensing a design. If anyone has experience with this or has successfully licensed their own designs, could you please share some insights into the process? Specifically, I’m curious about the steps involved, any challenges you may have faced, and any tips or best practices you can offer. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I’m designing an OLED module from Matrix Orbital into a product - it’s my first OLED and I have questions:
Must the display surface be protected behind a cover of some kind or can it be exposed directly to The World?
Is a contrast-enhancing filter commonly used or required?
Advice from anyone with OLED experience will be appreciated.

Hey!
Are there any materials experts here?
metals
plastics
cleaning substances
This is not electronics related but figured there might be some experts here.
For example - does anyone know what “high grade engineering plastic” might be? Apparently it’s food safe, injection mouldable and resistant to chemical attacks
I’m also looking into the impact evaporation of a phosphoric acid based sanitizer might have on said plastic, polypropylene, stainless steel and polyketone
I’m wondering if anyone might have put the pieces together and worked out what this is referring to
I’ve done some research ..read more

Hi
I have a board where I am using the STM32G051.
I have code running on the eval board. When I work in the target, I get a hard fault.
I think it is since I have not tied the BOOT0 pin down, and I am using SWCLK on the same pin (PA14).
In a google search this is mentioned:
I am using STM32cube IDE. Anyone know how to set the Option bytes to run from flash and ignore the BOOT0 pin?
Thanks
Klaus

Hi all,
I have a number of boards that expose digital I/O to the outside world, with logic states signalled by open/closed contacts. For this my typical approach is to use ULN2804 darlington transistor arrays. For outputs I use the ULN to drive transistor output opto-couplers. For inputs, the ULN provides level translation and a measure of protection for my circuit.
The problem now is that the ULN2804 is obsolete and there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of alternatives. My question is what other better parts and techniques would people use for this?

Hello,
I’m currently working on a project using the STM32G491 MCU and the Adafruit I2S MEMS Microphone Breakout - SPH0645LM4H to detect human speech and classify it as either “yes” or “no”. I found inspiration from Shawn Hymel’s YouTube video “TinyML: Using Machine Learning on Microcontrollers to Recognize Speech: Shawn Hymel”, where he demonstrates a similar project, although with a different processor.
I’ve encountered challenges trying to adapt the project to work with the STM32G491 processor. Despite my efforts, I’ve been facing difficulties, particularly with path errors when attempting t ..read more

Hii, I’m Darshan Hiranandani, How much should one budget for a high-quality Plug and Play (PnP) setup? We’d love to hear your insights and suggestions.
