100 Years Ago: May 1924
This is the 112th entry in my series of abridgements of 100-year-old National Geographic Magazines.
The first article in this month’s issue is entitled “Surveying the Grand Canyon of the Colorado” and was written by Lewis R Freeman. It has the internal subtitle: “An Account of the 1923 Boating Expedition of the United States Geological Survey.” The article contains sixty-two black-and-white photographs, of which fourteen are full-page in size. It also contains a sketch map of the Grand Canyon on page 474.

I have been holding on to a huge number of issues (likely close or over a thousand) for years now, and am currently downsizing leaving no room to take them with me. I've been struggling with what to do with them, as I'm worried they will be damaged at a library, school etc. and would love to see them go to a collector. I'm willing to pass them to the right person for a VERY low price. Message for more information ..read more

I am interested in any covers/envelopes or ephemera related to the 1934-1935 Stratosphere Balloon flights from the Black Hills of South Dakota. I'd be interested in hearing of any members that might have such items for sale, particularly any flown on the Explorer I (postmarked Omaha, Nebr) and Explorer II flights.   ..read more

I originally posted about these volumes a few years ago.
Our local library received them as a donation for our annual Friends of the Library sale. I wanted to get a value for them, so we could try and sell locally to avoid postage and handling fees. I was told to sell for $350 and not less than $200
After 3 sales and no local interest, I'm asking this group if there is anyone who would like to purchase?
I just want to get these old volumes to someone who will enjoy them. I also want to cover postage plus getting $150 -$200 for our Friends of the Library.
If you're interested in any ..read more

This is the 111th entry in my brief reviews of National Geographic Magazines on their Centennial.
The first article in this month’s issue is entitled “The Story and Legends of the Pontine Marshes*” and was written by Don Gelasio Caetani, Italian Ambassador to the United States. It has the internal subheading: “After Many Centuries of Fruitless Effort, Italy Is to Inaugurate a Gigantic Enterprise to Drain the Fertile Region Southeast of Rome.” The article contains eighteen black-and-white photographs, of which seven are full-page in si ..read more
