Crossing Charybdis - New 2022 Expedition
The Wild Swimming Brothers
by Calum Hudson

We are very excited to announce the launch of our 2022 expedition ‘Crossing Charybdis’. This will be a crossing of the Charybdis maelstrom which lies in the Straits of Messina between Sicily and Italy. The swim will be roughly 3.2km depending on currents with a narrow window to make the crossing. All three of us have a real affinity for maelstroms. These almost mythical formations make for some of the most fascinating swimming you can experience. We have swum across the 3 largest ones and are on a mission to complete the Maelstrom 7. In 2015 we crossed the Corryvreckan off the coast of Scotla ..read more

The Wild Lady Grant
The Wild Swimming Brothers

We’ve been wanting to do something for a while now to give back to the outdoor swimming community and really try to inspire people to reconnect with the outdoors… With that in mind, we are very excited to announce the “The Wild Lady Grant” in memory of our Grandma Wild. Our Grandma earned the nickname “The Wild Lady” for two reasons, the first being rather obviously that her maiden name was Wild, but the second being that she personified all that it means to truly be wild. It's not about bravado or recklessness, it's about being deeply and unequivocally connected to the na ..read more

Finnish Frivolity | Fritton Lake
The Wild Swimming Brothers
by Jack Hudson
2y ago
Last weekend, Calum and myself (jack) headed north from a less-restricted london, now finally coming around from its covid hangover…. We were on our way to the long two-mile Fritton Lake, which has become the freshwater centrepiece for a massive rewilding project, restoring wildlife to the local area along the Norfolk/Suffolk border. What we found, after riding the train over the Norfolk Broads and whipping off our masks with glee, like the oxygen-starved urbanites we’ve become, was a natural getaway we’d been waiting for. They describe it as a ‘true antidote to the fast-paced modern living ..read more

Swim Wild, Hardback Out Now
The Wild Swimming Brothers
by Jack Hudson

Last weekend we celebrated the launch of ‘Swim Wild’ (Yellow Kite Books) - jack’s debut book about wild swimming and our adventures together… If I could describe the book to a potential reader I would say that it is a travelogue (more memoir than swim guide), following myself (Jack) and my two older brothers from paddling pools to Arctic maelstroms, tracking our expeditions, whilst also exploring the historical and scientific significance of swimming in cold water.       I wrote this book to record the transformation felt when you escape the city and swim outdoors. Training Ends, We're Off To Loch Broom
The Wild Swimming Brothers
by Jack Hudson

We’ve hit our last week of training ahead of the Loch Broom swim on Saturday 26th August… We'll be attempting a 7-mile/11km swim down the length of Loch Broom in Scotland. If we're lucky we might be joined in the water by a curious porpoise or seal, as well as blooms of jellyfish. We'll hit the water early in the morning and swim with the tide. We're going to start at Ullapool and swim to the river mouth, close to a church at Clachan, which is symbollic to us because it's where we buried our Grandma Wild in March 2015.     Our Gran earned the nickname The Wild Lady for tw ..read more

Highlanders’ 9-hour Swim
The Wild Swimming Brothers

MEET LOCAL HIGHLANDERS Norman Todd (from the harbour town of Ullapool) and Colin MacLeod (from Stornoway - a two-and-a-half-hour ferry ride away - on the Isle of Lewis)… These two wild, affable characters joined us when we swam the length of Loch Broom. They led us comfortably the whole way down the loch for about 7-miles in total. In fact, Colin even found time to swim back between Calum, Robbie and myself, taking pictures and making sure we were all okay. By the time we were finished, he'd probably swum twice the distance than the rest of us, and yet he still emerged at the end of it l ..read more

A Dip With Bowler & Beach (Kings Cross Pond)
The Wild Swimming Brothers
by Calum Hudson

For as long as I can remember I’ve gone on adventures with my brothers. From our early years in Yorkshire, venturing into the deep mysterious depths of Bluebell Woods in search of log-dwelling wood-lice, to our teenage years in Cumbria, leaping into the River Eden… As we grew older and bolder we ventured further afield and swam in crystal clear salt cascades in Turkey and plunged into ice cold Himalayan mountain waterfalls in Northern India.  Throughout the years one constant has remained - we’ve always been on these adventures together as brothers, so you can imagine our ..read more
