Hi! I am a bilateral Rondo 3 Cochlear Implant Recipient. At night, prior to going to bed, I remove my processors and place them on the charging tablet. So, for the entire night, 9:00pm to 7:00am I am deaf, oblivious to what is happening around me. My partner and I are becoming concerned regarding our health.  Her question is, “how do I make you aware of an emergency if you cannot hear?” She worries, as do I. So, I come to this community seeking answers. You all have always been here for me and I am so grateful.  so, the question is, how does a hearing person alert a deaf person to an ..read more

Time off work

Hello all,  I have SSD and am going to get my CI in May.  My other ear hears almost normally, currently I wear a CROS device.  I am a STAT nurse and am wondering what you all recommend as far as taking time off work post activation (from what I understand the surgery and recovery are not too bad, most people can return to work within the week).  I have great benefits so if I need to take time off it is not a problem.  I am interested in the initial activation period and those first couple of weeks.  Would it be better to be home and in a controlled noise situation ..read more

I need help with a stethoscope

Hello!   I'm a medicine student from Poland. I've just started, it's my first year, but in summer I will have to go through practicing in a hospital. I will buy a stethoscope, probably the e-scope or one from ThinkLabs (I'll give links below). I heard from my audiologist in Germany and another doctor that the best way is to connect the implant with the stethoscope via a cable. I have a question (or two): first, do you think those cables on page 13 of the PDF about e-scope will fit to a Medel implant (I have 2 Medel impants)? They are shown with a hearing aid buuuut... They look like they ..read more

Got my surgery date

I lost my hearing SSHL Sept 25,23. My surgery is Jan 25,24 so 4 months to the day. I’m excited and very happy that in four months I went to feeling hopeless to feeling very hopeful.  I’m so happy that this is 100 percent covered as I feared it would cost tens of thousands of dollars. So lucky to live in Canada. I only have to pay for my processor after the 5 year warranty is up and I think ADP pays 75 percent then for an updated processor. Feeling grateful. I have a pre assessment meeting sometime yet to be determined.  I asked what electrode length I’ll get but waiting on that info ..read more

Does distorted words go away after CI implant

I forgot to ask the surgeon a question last week. When I got SSHL one of the bad side effects was that everything became distorted where  sounds seem like they are underwater or muffled. These distortions make me feel dizzy like my nerve does like what it’s getting. . I wanted to know if anyone else has these  problems prior to getting a CI? I assumed that my hair cells are damaged and that’s why things sound the way they do and that a CI delivers “sound” electronically instead of through hair cells so hoping that I will have clarity of speech afterwards.  Just wanted to know wh ..read more

Pain on earlobe when wearing headphones

Hey All! I have a question, how do I deal with an ache thats on my right ear lobe when I wear headphones? I also wear glasses as well. The issue I have is I wear Bose QC35 noise cancelling headphones, and now since I wear them every day, my right ear lobe hurts. It hurts where the processor sits, like where the battery part rests against the ear and seemed to have developed into a blister or something. Strangely, the left side doesn't have this issue. Any suggestions on how to reduce the pain or get rid of the blister? (Have tried googling this issue but it's not giving me the specifics). It m ..read more

I just received my brand new Rondo’s 3 and all the equipment to go with it. I was so excited to get the Audiolink to use with my TV and to listen to music.  We are having an issue with setting up the Audiolink with our TV.   Our TV does not have rca output..  We only have a single optical digital audio output for audio.  Our digital optical audio output currently is feeding directly to the Bose sound bar.  The Bose does not have any outputs.  How do I go about hooking up the Audiolink which uses a stereo mini jack input given the tv I own having only a optical dig ..read more

How long did you have to wait for your CI surgery and activation?

It took 10 months for diagnosis, failed treatments and insurance approval for my CI.  Now I have to wait 5 more months for my CI surgery.  I don’t have an activation date yet.  Is this common for people in the US with PPO insurance?  How long did you have to wait for your CI surgery and then activation ..read more
