That guilt that always comes

When becoming a mom there is a phenomenon that has overtaken my life- and it’s called mommy guilt. Somehow I OWN every bump/bruise, every cavity, every bad behavior, every day that consisted of too much tv, not enough learning/reading and not enough fruits and vegetables. I should have run over there faster, I should have been paying more attention, I should have brushed longer/ feed my kids different food, I should have been more awake and less groggy the day after I worked so we could have had a day full of sensory play, reading, learning letters and coloring. A whole lot of shoulda, could ..read more

Have you ever had someone say “you’re so lucky being a stay-at-home parent, you get to just hang out with your kids all day!” Am I though? Am I lucky, or is being a stay-at-home 24/7 mom really hard? Some may think you have a seamless, piece of cake job because they perceive you get to just lounge around at home and hang out with your children. Yeah, no. A diaper bag that is fully, strategically packed and covers all your needs and bases while on an outing. When Embers was a week old, we were out at a church Christmas function where we were frantically running to the grocery store to look for gas drops to help our fussy infant who was trying to get used to life outside the womb. I was so emotional and ..read more

I can honestly say I never claimed to relish in the struggles and joys of true parenting until we went from one child to two, who are two years and ten days apart. It’s not just that now you have two littles to get dressed, diapers changed, feed, clothes and toys sorted, bathed, consoled etc., but now I find myself playing constant defense to keep the baby SAFE and the toddler validated! While our daughter Emberly loves to help with her brother Grant by helping feed, console, and play with, she also likes to use him as a human cushion, to jump on and to sit on often. There is also the part I ..read more

Being Type A and being a Mom

You’ll notice that in my heading I didn’t name it “Type A Mom” because in my experience it is impossible to be exclusively type A when you’re also a mom. Motherhood is MESSY! I have been type A for most of my teen and young adult life and after I had my first child in 2017, the recurring chaos that motherhood can bring contributed to my postpartum depression. I no longer had complete control over my schedule nor enough time in the day to keep my house as clean as I wanted it. I soon realized something with my type A personality and OCD tendencies would have to change, and it has been a moment ..read more
