Immigration, always a burning issue in America, turned white-hot this week when President Biden and former President Trump made dueling visits to the southern border. The Los Angeles Police Department, under the guidance of the City Attorney, released photographs of officers as part of litigation in response to a public records request. Officers sued the department over it, claiming privacy violations, and the City of Los Angeles has now taken two legal actions against the journalist and a watchdog group that published the images last year. Nowhere is that lack of racial and ethnic diversity more stark than in the ranks of the nation’s investigative editors and reporters at major news organizations.
