The clock is ticking until the 2024 NFL Draft and the Cowboys' draft strategy is still a mystery.
While we can assume with who they've visited and what their needs are which guys will be options, but if you know anything about Dallas's recent drafting, we really don't know yet.
They are a unique drafting team, and their trends change consistently.
One major question with the Cowboys' draft strategy is whether or not they will target “medical risk” players.
We've seen them do it before.
In 2019, it was Leighton Vander Esch, who recently medically retired from the same chronic neck problem he h ..read more

In last year's draft the Dallas Cowboys decided to address their woeful run defense in the first round.
They took defensive tackle Mazi Smith out of Michigan. They come into this year's draft still needing to address their woeful run defense.
Smith is bordering on being a Taco Charlton-level – another Michigan defensive lineman drafted by Dallas – bust.
Drafted in 2017, Charlton was released two weeks into the 2019 season. He has the distinction of having the shortest-ever tenure for a Cowboys' first rounder not shortened by injury.
Smith isn't quite in that much jeopardy. Yet.

The only certainty going into next week's draft is that Dallas has so many needs they can't miss with their first pick.
Unless they pick another tight end. But not even Jerry Jones is that crazy.
Is he?
The majority of the mock drafts flooding the internet with 10 days to go before the first pick has the Cowboys taking an offensive lineman.
With the departures of tackle Tyron Smith and center Tyler Biadasz – and Zack Martin hitting his mid-30s – it makes sense. The line needs reinforcements.
I'm on record as saying Brock Hoffman will be the starting center and T.J. Bass will play guard with T ..read more

Good morning, readers. It's Monday and you know what that means. It's time for #MockDraftMonday with Mario at Inside The Star.
The draft is a short 11 days away and the ever-changing draft projections continue to reveal who teams seem to be targeting.
Dallas, being the PR juggernaut that it is, is linked to several players both as early-round targets and late-round fliers.
We truly never know what the Cowboys plan to do in the draft aside from drafting All-Pro offensive linemen in the 1st round.
That very well may be the case again this season after losing both LT Tyron Smith and C Tyler Biad ..read more

I swear to the Almighty, if the Dallas Cowboys draft a tight end in the 2024 Draft – in any round – I'm going to need bail money.
I'm not kidding.
Going into last year's draft I pointed out Dallas' poor history when drafting a tight end in the early rounds. They went ahead and did it anyway.
I think we can all agree that the Luke Schoonmaker pick in the second round last year was a wasted pick.
Schoonmaker's stats were abysmal. He also cost the Cowboys a win in Philadelphia by running his route too short.
Fortunately, the loss did not deny Dallas the NFC East title.
But in 2024 the Cowboys h ..read more

In under two weeks, the 2024 Dallas Cowboys draft class will be set in stone with the start of the NFL Draft.
This is the biggest event of the offseason for many teams, and the Cowboys are no different.
They need an influx of talent after losing out on countless free agents and moving on from players of their own.
Dallas needs new starters at multiple spots and more depth pieces on the roster.
Cowboys needs:
Starting LT
Starting C
Starting RB
Top 3 DT
3rd WR
3rd or 4th LB
4th CB
EDGE depth
Cowboys draft picks that made an impact last year: none

As mentioned on Thursday, most mock drafts have the Dallas Cowboys going after an offensive lineman with their first pick in the NFL draft in two weeks.
A few have them taking lineman in the first two rounds. And I stand by the statement that they do not need to do so.
The Cowboys more urgent needs are at running back, wide receiver, and either a middle linebacker or defensive tackle to shore up their run defense.
In Thursday's post, I had the Cowboys taking a running back with their first pick – either at No. 24 or in a trade back into the early second round.
Which leaves their original seco ..read more

Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys defense is reeling.
They have, so far, lost six defensive players to free agency, or, in Leighton Vander Esch's case, medical retirement.
This is a unit that cost Dallas badly once the lights got bright in 2023.
In nine games against opponents in the top 15 for total offensive yards, the Cowboys defense gave up an average of 360 total yards.
That ranks 26th in the league for yards allowed per game.
This weakness to perform against top offenses is, in large part, what ended their season in the playoffs.
With a new defensive regime under Mike ..read more

Most of the mock drafts for next month's NFL Draft have the Dallas Cowboys laser-focused on taking an offensive lineman.
A few have them spending both their 1st and 2nd round picks on the line for that matter. All of them are dead wrong.
Should the season start today, the Cowboys have the players on the roster to start a solid offensive line.
What they don't have is a bell cow running back to take some of the pressure off of quarterback Dak Prescott.
And that is why Dallas should make their first pick of the 2024 Draft a running back. The only question is: Do they make him a first round sele ..read more
