I'm not going to start for a little while, but this will be my next build.   I could just do her as a generic boat, but I think all boats should have a name, so this on this one will be...... USS Flasher SS-249   I've only ever built one other submarine, the Starling Models T Class HMS Tabard, a nice little kit. The thing with submarines, I find, is that they are not as complicated as surface ships, so this will make a nice change. As you will see there are not a lot of parts, but they are quite well moulded and there seems to be good detail on the hull/deck. The hull splits in two ..read more

Restoring a Titanic 1/400 Revell model.

Hello everyone,   I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to share a bit of a dilemma I've been facing with my model Titanic, and I'm hoping some of you might have some advice or tips to help me out. A while back, I received a 1/400 scale model of the Titanic from Revell. It was my very first model, but unfortunately, it never got finished. The main issue is that it was painted in a rather amateurish manner, using the paints that came with the kit. Now, I'm eager to finally complete it, but the paint job is really holding me back. I've been considering trying to strip the paint, perhaps wi ..read more

I've started work on a Lun class Ekranoplan this weekend. It's a Takom model 3002 - https://www.scalemates.com/kits/takom-3002-lun-class-ekranoplan--1359139     Very simple kit to construct. It took a couple of hours. And there's not a lot of components that make up the kit. I had it built in a single afternoon. Base is Stainless steel, Welded it up myself, I need to add some rubber to the arm to hold the model a bit more securely. Paint wise It's just a base-coat. Titans panzer grey from a can, titans white over top, and then a 6000grit cutback and some base washes. It's almost r ..read more

Well as a bit of a MOJO restorer I am making a start on this one with York nearing completion hopefully by next week for Perth Scot Nat's and Great Western having some fit issues also other things from real life I need to get back at the bench but in short bursts with a puppy to train and not much time on my hands for now. I know @Faraway built this kit a couple of years back when it first came out and I liked the look of it, so it has been in the stash for only a little while now and it looks like a short build one (Famous Last Words)   So made up the hull and some of the super ..read more

Double Build - HMAS Otama and HMAS Sheehan 1/350 scale

My 1/72 Leander HMNZS Waikato is nearly finished so expect in next week or so  (apart from the Wasp and 2 pieces I am waiting for from UK) to have it done. Decided before I start on my next more significant build to do a little quick turnaround project. I have connections to both Australian classes of submarine via previous careers (as an ASAC in the RNZN when the Oberon class where often the targets we were hunting, and then in later life three years spent working at ASC, the Australian builder of the Collins class) so thought I would whip up a quick build in 1/350.   HMAS Otama &nb ..read more

Hello all, it is good to be back in the Maritime section after quite a long while away.   Just before our British Covid lockdown began in 2020, Britmodeller had a Group Build running called 'In the Navy'. I decided to build a ship model, and was in a bit of a minority! I chose this one, Combrig's 1/700 scale HMS Gloucester (1910) as my initial subject, and things went quite well. If any of you would like a catch up, here is a link to that thread:   I am afraid I rather ground to a halt, as my imagination (or lack thereof) too hold. I found myself looking quite a few stages ahead and ..read more

Ahoy, This is my 3rd 1/700 Ship I build, and my 1st Maritime WIP here in BM. The basic kit is Tamiya 1/700 LST-4001, and I will add it with Pit-Road PE Set (Fun Facts; I bought the PE set first before the basic kit)   Construction start with the PE and the ship's mast and island the Pit-Road PE set does not provide the grating and railings for the wet deck, so I decided to make one using leftover railings from Flyhawk railing set. it wont be 100% accurate, but it would be suffice by the end.       Bot much now, but more photos will follow...   Cheers ..read more

Hi everyone. So, this will be my third model ship and my first time sharing any of my work in progress. While wrapping up my 1/350 Prinz Eugen, I spent a lot of time contemplating what ship I'd like to build next. I looked at the IJN Fusō and Kongo class ships, but the price of Fujimi kits alone, even before buying PE and whatever else I would need, was a bit out of my range. Richelieu, King George V and the Russian Kirov class in particular were also options. However, I was also very interested in building something in 1/200 to see how different it was compared to 1/350. So, when I found the ..read more

HMS Avon Vale - Hunt Class Type 2 Destroyer "L06" - Atlantic Models 1/350

I'm always slightly envious of @beefy66's association with Tyneside and the ships that were built there on his doorstep.  I can't quite match that stuck in the middle of Wiltshire!  However researching Hunt Class Destroyers when Peter Hall (Atlantic Models) released his 1/350 version I was rather pleased to find that there WAS an association with Bradford on Avon, my home town, in that the Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge sponsored the wartime Hunt class Destroyer HMS Avon Vale.   https://www.bradfordonavonmuseum.co.uk/avonvale     As per above I trooped off down to th ..read more
