Why Salmon and Gluckstein?
The British were unable to get their tongues around Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, the correct name for these sister German Battleships, so the press nicknamed them after a famous London Tobacconist. The public soon took up the names.
On the 11 Feb. 1942, these two ships, along with the Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen and a destroyer escort left Northern France and 'Dashed' up the Channel. Successfully arrived at safe German ports on the 13th.....
These are the two kits...

Fletcher is all but done and will then be binned. Kagero is drying in primer.
Was planning to do a battleship next but still need to show improvement in a few areas.
So next is Trumpeters 1/350 German destroyer Z30 comes with a fair bit of PE, so ideal further practice
Drilled out portholes and additional holes on the deck. Fair bit of fettling to do but both decks fitting much...

Decided to try a proper ship after doing the Schnellboots. At the moment just trying to build it up ready to prime. Seems that the deck in front of the wave defector (?) should be steel but Trumpeter have got it timbered.
Apparently the dazzle camo extended to the deck so will leave as is.
Want to put it in the sea when finished so wondering about waterlining it. Hummm, do I just draw a line and take the dremel to it ..read more

After a lot of years away from modelling I have picked up the bug again.
Looking around here I realise that I am definitely in the noob section, but hey, I can only get better (maybe).
Here is the progress so far.
As I travel up and down to the Ayrshire Scale Model Group, the torpedo booms are slowly giving up the ghost, so I have removed them for the time being.
If anyone has a set of 1/350 ww2 British BB propellers though, I would be interested in greasing your palm for them....lost in...

It's getting dark early, trust you have all done the clocks??
Due to more practice needed on seams I found this in the stash. Been there for a while and box a bit battered.
So made rapid progress, bit surprised at the gaps after fitting the deck. Used deluxe materials filler then wiped excess off with a damp cotton bud. Although it's a full hull there's a horrible seam at the stern. Bugger!
Built up the superstructures, seams to hopefully sort out plus the dreaded...
