MELFORT, SK – Aidyn Hutchinson banged home the winner at the 4:48 mark of the second overtime, and the Melfort Mustangs moved to within one victory of the Canterra Seeds Cup with a 4-3 triumph in Game 3 Wednesday. Logan Belton opened the scoring 1:38 into the first period for the host Mustangs with a wicked backhand over Harmon Laser-Hume’s shoulder. Medicine Hat, Alta. native Hayden Prosofsky will be attending the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, come this fall. The 2003-born forward will compete in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) against the likes of former Mustangs Nolan Doell, Dawson Leroux, Kevin Minnoch, and now, Joel Favreau. FLIN FLON, MB – Chase Friedt-Mohr led the way with a goal and assist, and Rhett Hamilton notched his second game-winner in as many games as the Melfort Mustangs downed the Flin Flon Bombers 4-1 in Game 2 Saturday night. James Venne made 42 saves and was terrific once again in net for the Mustangs, and Melfort grabbed a 2-0 lead in the Canalta Cup Final. FLIN FLON, MB – Seven different Mustangs found the back of the net as Melfort downed the Bombers 9-2 in Game 1 Friday at the Whitney Forum. Aidyn Hutchinson led the way with three assists, and Logan Cox, and Ryan Duguay added two goals apiece to take a 1-0 lead in the Canterra Seeds Cup Final. REGINA, SK – The 2024 Canterra Seeds SJHL Final has been set as a match-up between the league’s Nos. 1 and 2 seeds, the Flin Flon Bombers and Melfort Mustangs, respectively. Flin Flon defeated the Kindersley Klippers and Battlefords North Stars in consecutive four-game sweeps.
