Matt Christians Goofy stuff happens in hockey games. Usually once or twice in a season, an unfortunate team will end up giving up a goal while possessing the puck during a delayed penalty, either thanks to a bad bounce or errant pass will find its’ way into a vacated goal. That happened twice on Friday evening. But that’s not the strangest part. Sacred Heart Athletics It was an important day for the Sacred Heart men’s and women’s hockey programs yesterday as work crews began putting in ice on the brand new Martire Family Arena, which is set to open up in two months. The new 4000-seat on-campus arena will be a major upgrade for both Pioneers programs. USA Hockey has announced the roster for the 2023 IIHF Women’s World U18 Championship, which will take place January 8-15 in Ostersund, Sweden. It’s a short turnaround from the 2022 tournament, which took place this past June in Madison, Wisconsin after being rescheduled due to Covid, giving the US a quick opportunity to avenge their loss to Canada in that tournament’s gold medal game. Monday evening, St. Cloud State faced off against top-ranked and undefeated Minnesota in the US Hockey Hall of Fame Classic, played in front of a sold-out crowd at Andover Community Center in Andover, Minnesota.
