Hi all, I'm probably jumping the gun sharing this project now, as it's a long-term work-in-progress, but I anticipate finishing this summer and couldn't wait to post. BLUF: I'm building a pair of curved Nat P's. Actually, more like complex-curved, as the top/back is curved and intersects with the curved sides. Let me know what you think and/or if you have any questions. This is my 6th pair of curved speakers and this particular process has worked extremely well for me so far. Thanks to Jon Marsh for designing these ..read more

SB17NBAC in a transmission line with active crossover

I've been hankering to try a transmission line for a while. I realise many people use these for subwoofers and 3 ways, but I thought why not try it with a 2 way, using a low Qts driver to really make my job hard? :) To make it even harder, why not throw an active crossover into the mix? I also want to experiment with faceted baffles. The active crossover will take the form of a Raspberry Pi 3b+ with HAT attached Suptronics DAC which takes HDMI to 7.1 channel unbalanced analogue output via RCA (sadly these are NLA - so I better treat it nicely). I have a media server built on the same (albeit ..read more

Hi Folks, I have had most of the parts both towers and centre channel speakers for far too long and am finally getting around to making sawdust. The Towers are 3.5way and centre 3 way. My problem is I left buying some of the inductors until last, the towers use an 3.6mH Erse Super Q inductor for the lower woofer and thes now seem to be unobtainium. Parts Express have them listed on the website not in stock with no ETA, I contacted them and they have said Erse are no longer in business. This is weird as their website is still active, I actually managed to order a couple online but then got an ..read more

Proposed Statement II MTMWW Rebuild

Hey guys. It's been about 4-5 years since I built my Statement II speakers. They've been excellent, though my craftsmanship has developed, and I'd like to rebuild them in a slightly more aesthetically pleasing manner. I attached a couple of photos of my CAD drawings. I've planned out how to do this with the CNC, I just want to check and discuss whether what I've proposed is reasonable, and wont impact dynamics too much. I intend to 3d print the channels for the mids, rather than use MDF. (this is why they are not included in the CAD drawings). It seems less complicated. I could make the mid ..read more

A new Center Channel Design study...
HTGuide Forum » Mission Possible DIY

OK, folks, this is HT Guide, and someone reminded me that my moderator contract requires me to design a new center channel speaker once every ten years! And I'm in violation of that, as the NeoD CC was launched in 2007! My, how time flies! Well, I'd better get busy... The funny thing is, I collect driver information and do some testing on an ongoing basis, much of it isn't interesting enough to report here, and some, like lately, I just haven't had time to... but occasionally an idea coalesces out of all that raw data which suggests an "interesting" (as ET would say) new approach. Or, at leas ..read more

Video about the new PS Audio FR30's was a hoot, but for unusual reasons

To say that lately I haven't been following many things I usually pay attention too, like Boulder based audio manufacturers, is a major understatement. Fortunately I have stalwart friends like Steve Manning who will fill me in from time to time, just so I don't get completely lost from reality... What? Huh? PSAudio making a speaker? Really? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrpYAMfB318 Got to their web site to find out more about the FR30's. This video is about the installation visit for customer #2, in Missouri. I have lived in Missouri, when about 5 years old. Don't believe I ever met th ..read more
