There is no shorting of the sound/wires. But I want to avoid that and future possible breaks in the wire. What would be the best way to fix this? My guess would be shrink tubing ? Thanks in advance ..read more

Adcom GDA-700 DAC - Updating to modern parts, advice!

Yesterday I received a great condition Adcom GDA-700 DAC. My first experience with the PCM1702 chip, I like it! I have a Audio-GD R-1 NOS already and while it is pretty amazing, I've never felt like I completely vibed with it, mainly because the sound stage is so very in my face all the time. Now with the Adcom, I am hearing pretty much all the same detail but with a much more dispersed and pushed back soundstage. And for about third of the price, this is a win for me. So I figure now that... Read more ..read more

I found the threads on here about the HD280 "blue tak" mod helpful in taking apart my set to add a jack so I thought I reciprocate and post a thread showing how I added a jack to replace the built-in cord. Update: Executor32 found a really nice headphone jack on Amazon, I've quoted his post here so you can all see it sooner. Executor32 said: ...I did find this Philmore panel-mount jack that I ended up using. Click to expand... I have had my 280's for a few weeks now and love 'em. They block out lots of noise... How do you identify unmarked tubes?

Long story short, I came across a box of around 100 tubes for a dollar and could not pass them up. Problem is, none of them are in boxes and 95% of them have had their markings wiped off. Is there any way to identify what's what? Lots of octal, lots of miniature tubes, and quite a few rectifier and regulator tubes, as well. If possible, I'd like to use them. I doubt all or most are good for amps, but I do have tube radios and wold probably pass along anything I couldn't use. If this... Read more ..read more

Anyone done it? So a couple of years ago, I mean probably a decade ago when I was here, there was someone who posted about sending in their stax sigma to the American distributor to get it upgraded with lambda 404 drivers, cable and headband. I contacted the distributor back then for a quote and it was about 600 USD. Was a broke student back then so didn't go through with it, also didn't want to just toss my sigma drivers seing as they were the only normal bias phones I had and the amp... Read more ..read more

I want to make a headphone cable for my Beyerdynamic DT 1990 pro. Something pretty. I was looking at Performance Audio to do this through. No snake oil cables, just something tried and proven scientifically. And sturdy. Any suggestions on what professional wire to use from Mogami, Canare or Belden? I’ve searched and admit a bit confused so I thought I would ask you guys who have tons of experience Highly appreciated. It will be a mini XLR female to 1/8 ( 3.5mm) trs stereo connector...
