New centre speaker - advice

Greetings. - can anyone help with recommendations for a wide but low centre speaker? I need to create some space in my BDi cabinet for new equipement, by minimising the vertical height of my (adjustable) centre speaker shelf, to fit amps etc below. I can have up to 90cm for width but would prefer to have a centre speaker of low height - 10cm-15cm ideally. I appreciate that this means having smaller drive units and making other compromises. I've seen some options from Goldenear, Polk and... Read more ..read more

I've been following a group called the "High Order Quarterwave Society" on facebook for a while and recently they've been coming out with some pretty rad looking ideas. It would be great to see what you guys think of the following designs: Paraflex 1x12" top: As it is now the working range is solid from 85hz -900hz using the 12NDL76 and 85hz - 1300hz with the 12MH32. Current throat slot CSA is around 250cm2-ish. Sensitivity is around 105dB and you can use a... Read more ..read more

Hi! Which compression driver would be your choice above 1khz for a club installation? The dcx464 or the dcx354? The driver hast to play over 3x 18Sound 15NTLW3500 (80-350Hz) and a 10" Midhorn JBL 2012 (350-1100Hz). Crossover will be active FIR with Powersoft Amps. Horn for the Coax is a Limmer 250M ..read more

DIY a 40-20hz sub?

I have two kind of subs. One that drops off around 37ish Hz, one that drops off at 28ish Hz. I played around using the 28hz subs as infra subs for the other subs, sounded quite nice with a lot of useable output. This got me thinking, have anybody ever DIY'ed a 40-20hz sub for live sound use? Ran a few simulations in WinISD, looks like a b&c 21DS115 tuned to 20hz could get there in a 400L box. With a big port (airspeed roughly 19m/s) the total volume/size is comparable to one 2x18". There's... Read more ..read more

Connect wireless mic directly?

So I'm a musician and I'm making a "snake" for performing. I'm running a guitar cable, mic cable, and a return for earphones, all wired up running through CAT6 cable with a small breakout box on each end. The photo shows the wearable end with switches to mute the guitar and mic. It's going into a small battery powered amp. The guitar works fine, the phones work fine, but I'm having problems with the mic. It's a headset mic meant for use with a Shure wireless setup. I've been messing around... Read more ..read more

Recycling Neodymium woofer magnets?

Given the political and geographical situation with rare earth metals, I've been curious about the recyclability of speaker magnets. In my travels I've never heard any talk about this from manufacturers or anywhere else. I've got a handful of B&C woofers that, despite the availability of recone kits, are not worth repairing on account of the cost. (Last time I checked, it's only a few more dollars to get an entire new driver.) Should these be 'landfilled'? [I seem to recall that B&C made a... Read more ..read more

A not so DIY line array

I have started work on a small but extremely high quality line-array. I got sick of manufacturers say no you can't use your Powersoft amplifiers and Lake processors, you have to use our special (re-badged and inflated priced) amplifiers. ... so I decided to build my own. Its probably beyond what I would call a DIY project but I though some people may be interested. Here is a picture of my rough experimental test box and the most stunning impulse responses I have ever seen... Read more ..read more

Hi Everyone I am kind of new here and after having built few vented enclosures for bass / midbass drivers, I decided to go forward and build Tapped Horn types in order to get the best of my RCF LF15N401 with this plan : https://www.freespeakerplans.com/plans/14-plans/basscab/10-apache-h15 . But before-hand, I have few questions in mind : Vibrations : I need to have my setup (turntables + mixer) diretly on the top of the enclosure : How will it goes with the bass vibrations...
