Hi, My wife is 24, just started working, previously on IL medicaid which fully covered Omnipod, Dexcom, Humalog; Any advice on finding her an affordable, solid insurance plan? Is it possible for her to stay on IL Medicaid (because of disability). Any help would be appreciated, thank you! submitted by /u/Vast_Distribution886 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Questions about getting a pump

I don’t even have a CGM yet and I would prioritize that over a pump but I don’t know anything about the brands or apps. I don’t see the benefits of a pump unless it can work in response to a CGM. But I guess that’s more of a software thing? Is that available for Apple users? Are there certain brands or models to steer clear of? Does the insulin for pumps act any faster than short acting? I’m in range most of the time as it is now but my standard deviation is 29 I’d like to be down to 26 (dietetics recommended 26-28) normal people are at 20. I think controlling this metric is more important an ..read more

G6 and G7 wildly different

I got a few sample G7s to try out and I put it on before my G6 ran out to compare the numbers. They are WILDLY off. I'm talking up to 200 off - right now the G7 says I'm steady at 325 and the G6 says I'm steady at 165 (meter says 177, so I'm trusting the G6). I also had a pressure low from laying on the G7 the one night I've had it on, when I get them maybe a few times a year with the G6. Do I need to calibrate the G7 a bunch the first day? Has anyone else tried this and seen this much disparity? I'm sticking to the G6 for now but it really alarmed me. submitted by /u/Liriel117 [visit reddit ..read more

Does Toujeo just not work for some people?

MDI and generally happy with it and actually this refers to all Glargine type insulins. Long story short, I was happily living my life on Levemir until I was about 29. My endo at the time (who was not good at her job at all) had the fantastic idea to swap me to Lantus because "Levemir isn't as good as this one". Recently got a CGM, realised Lantus was not doing what it should be doing at all, was swapped onto Toujeo a few months ago. If I fast, my blood remains fairly stable but the second I move my blood goes into freefall, second I eat anything at all (like, even a crumb) my blood spikes, w ..read more

I made a visual guide to pen injection to help my neighbor with low-vision, who just got put on insulin. File Link: Visual Instructions for Pen Injection I thought it might be a good template for anyone with low-vision, or kids learning to do their own injections. Feel free to use this guide, or make a copy and change it to suit your needs. All pictures are mine, except the types of insulin (top), and the injection. Anyone is welcome to use my pictures for non-commercial uses. https://preview.redd.it/k99nc1n19awc1.jpg?width=1055&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25fa1efb5e79805257d24f75 ..read more

Anybody else ever get a disgusting bunch of pus in a port site? (Red = 40-65 / Grey = 65-230 / Yellow = 230+) The last 24-72 hours have apparently been very, very bad. I kept bolusing and gave myself a couple injections and it kept trying to come down so I didn’t think something was off until it started to hurt to walk. I use my lower back and my thighs mainly for sites and I was not expecting to rip off the port site in a fit of rage to discover a thick, painful, and disgusting amount of pus flowing from the site… This is really mostly just me complaining because it’s been killing me an ..read more

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a query. We are due to go on holiday in the summer to a location on the beach with water parks and pools close by also. My 12 year will have the pump by then and we were worried about the water and slides etc. The nurse said that she should just take off the pump for 1.5 hours at a time however the pump is supposedly waterproof. We have also ordered an additional waterproof cover for the pump as precaution. How have others found this scenario. I just find it hard putting restrictions on her with taking off the pump and putting it back on over and o ..read more

Type 1 and prednisone

Hi, I’m currently taking a high dosage weeks worth of prednisone and I’m on day 2. Today throughout the day I’ve ate like normal but had to inject literally 3x the dosage than normal (eg: 5units fast acting for 50g carbs). I’ve literally had almost 45 units of fast acting today and it’s not even 8pm yet. I have a high movement job and my bloods have not even touched below 20mmol. Does anyone know how to help this? (On top of 20units of slow acting daily insulin may I add) submitted by /u/MusicianOver2133 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
