I am moving to Canada in August with my partner on a 2 year working holiday visa. I have done quite a lot of research into diabetic supplies availability and still slightly confused on the insurance/costings. We are planning on moving to the Banff/Canmore area in Alberta and wondered if anyone had any advice on this province? I have read up on the Alberta healthcare plan which I understand I can sign up for within 3 months of arriving which covers supplies up to $600 but not insulin? Is... Read more ..read more

I am looking at lowering my HBA1c I am 5 weeks into diagnosis. No honeymoon period [emoji17] I've gone from 25% in range and 36% high. I'm now 75% in range with only 1% high. So pleased I'm making headway. (Some days things just don't seem to work but more better days then bad). My question is to get my level down to low 60's what % in range or average level should I be aiming for ..read more

Hi all. Woke at 8 am with sugars at 8.8. I had porridge for breakfast and injected my Fiasp just 3 units instead of 4 as I knew I was going to the gym later. Arrived gym 12 noon. Sugars high 15 and usually they down rapidly with cardio. One hour later and a lot more exercise than usual they remained at 15! 2 pm injected 3 units fiasp correction dose. Needed to eat so injected for my lunch carbs. Just slowly going down now at 13.9 at 2.45 pm. The only thing I’ve done differently is had... Read more ..read more

Hello, I'm a diabetic Type 1 for about 20 years now. Each time I go to do my yearly blood test my HbA1c levels come back really high (63 mmol/mol) – recommended 20-41. I exercise every day and something tells me it's my diet as I do like my foods. I don't smoke and only drink 2-3 units a week. I would like to know what people eat in their diets to help maintain good HbA1c levels? Thanks, Stan ..read more

I think you guys will probably understand all of this! I run high all the time, I have been diabetic for about 17 years! Really wouldnt know it seeing as I am proper USELESS at it! Last Sat I went up to 36, which is so so high! I cannot control it! I test for ketones all the time on... Read more ..read more

Correction ratios

I'm a new pump user. Just curious about correction ratios (as in how many mmol/L bg 1 unit of insulin brings you down by). I've just moved to a pump and I think my dietician has used the 100/total daily insulin rule to get my ratio, but I am sceptical. In particular, if I wasn't on a lowish carb diet (circa 80g per day) I'd obviously need more insulin, but maybe the ratio is different then? It's not far out, but my pump doesn't seem to cope with highs at all well, so am tempted to adjust... Read more ..read more

Be careful with Android 15 beta

Just a quick one for anyone who is Type 1, or otherwise using a CGM with an Android Phone, and is also the kind of tech geek that has to be part of any Beta test going. The currently available Android 15 beta (at time of writing this on the weekend of the 14th April) will render your NFC radio inoperable - the rest of your phone will work fine, it will just stop being able to take readings from your CGM. Which is pretty obviously to be avoided. I'm sure that Google will fix this pronto -... Read more ..read more
