Baofeng DR-1801UV Alias

Apparently a user of the Baofeng DR-1801UV can set up an “Alias” that includes call sign, location and name that will show up on PRN Talk Groups. I currently use a local PRN repeater and all it displays is my ID. I thought of using the “Fast Message” feature for this, but there doesn’t appear to be a way to link this to my contacts. There is a note on page 23 of the user manual that references “Alias” without any follow up explaining how do do it. The software I’m using is DR-1801A6 and it works quite well, but I see nothing there about “Alias.” Anyone here have a clue? 1 post - 1 participant ..read more

Bizarre Audio Issue AT-5888uv

I have a Anytone 5888uv dual band FM transciever. When the radio is left in scan mode it will lose all audio after about 30 minutes of run time. When I turn off the radio, turn off the power supply and wait about ten seconds, the audio will resume when the radio comes back on. I’m trying to decide whether to send this radio back or am I overlooking a simple fix? When the audio goes, all audio goes, the sound on external speaker and the microphone speaker all fall silent. Thanks for any counsel. 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic ..read more

TD-H8 hearing repeater ID after someone transmits

I just started using the TIDRadio TD-H8 and found an issue that I don’t know how to resolve. I’m using it to monitor our non-radio related club’s repeater. The repeater is using CTCSS but not on the repeater ID message. Normally, I hear traffic fine and will not hear the repeater’s Morse code ID. But if someone talks (transmits) and the repeater IDs right after them, then I hear the Morse code. The Baofeng radios on-site were never hearing the Morse code. Is there a way to eliminate this issue on the TD-H8? 5 posts - 2 participants Read full topic ..read more

I have a TIDRADIO H8. I am attempting to make a HAM config file and a GMRS config file. I used the phone app to grab a config file which also gets stored where the web app can access it. I switch to the web app and EXPORT the config file. I read the CSV into a spreadsheet. No edit. Write the the CSV, IMPORT the CSV into the web app. Then switch to the phone app. Grab that IMPORTED file, and WRITE to radio … no problem. But, if I change the CSV in any way it will not IMPORT to the web app. It says … run-time exception (in computing): java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out o ..read more

Hello. New to Ham. Trying to decide between say the Wouxun KG-UV9PX and say a Yaesu FT-70DR or FT-5DR. Mainly would like to be able to scan and listen to as many emergency channels, aircraft transmissions etc as possible (ideally the channels or frequencies preloaded on device or very easy to program myself). Have the best distance to connect to repeaters and sound quality. most channels and frequencies to communicate on Any recommendations? 5 posts - 3 participants Read full topic ..read more

I have UV-18 Pro Max GPS I am convinced it is genuine, color screen, large numbers, deep voice in the menu with the ability to create zones in memory is the correct radio. But I am disappointed because the AM (Wide) Air Band mode sounds Horrible, hoarse, saturated, strong signals are heard saturated, almost nothing is understood. I really like the style of this radio. I have the UV-17 Pro GPS, reception is completely understandable, crystal sound is received very nice in AM mode. I imagined that having so much similarity in terms of firmware (when both radios are turned on, the screen looks li ..read more

I have some “noob level” Tidradio HT-H8 question that I know the crew here can set me straight on. Concerning programming the HT-H8 GMRS in OdMaster… Under the Optional Features menu, what do these selections control? Only CH Mode: (check box) TDR: Yes/No (slide switch) BL: Yes/No (slide switch) Under A & B Band Frequency Mode menus… A Band Freq Mode: (in general what does it control, why does it exist?) B Band Freq Mode: (what does it control, why does it exist?) In the FM radio stations menu… Channel: (1 to 25) selects what? Maybe user channel banks? Word Mode: (CH or VFO?) does what to ..read more

Setting T-CTCS on Baofeng UV-5R

I have a Baofeng UV-5R and have everything set up to communicate with my driving group (they use Channel 5, Privacy Code 9), except for my radio will not hold the T-CTCS of 91.5HZ, which is what is needed for the Privacy Code 9. I go into the Menu 13 and scroll to 91.5 and hit menu to confirm, but then it reverts right back to showing OFF. Can anyone help me with this? 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic ..read more
