Hi all, couple of recent power outages and a few public service event hiccups has me resuming planning this go-box project that's been on hold for a while. Stuffing a battery and my rig in an old camera bag has worked for farting around on HF but I'm aiming to build something more rugged and versatile.
I'm working around a Dakota Lithium 18Ah LiFePo4. No separate charging port like the Bioennos, and Dakota says their packs have built in BMS circuitry. Likely building into a Pelican-style case or ammo can. No real interest in solar at the moment.
My two goals that I'd like some thoughts re: wi ..read more

Hey guys, I’m sure this has been covered but I haven’t been able to find exactly what I’m looking for. The kg-q10h is gps enabled, but it isn’t APRS, which leads me to believe there’s no TNC with this particular radio. What’s the best way to run packet email? The mobilinkd tnc is certainly a good option, but is limited to packet. Do I run a digilink mobile with a sound modem app? I’m run I g windows 10 and have a gps dongle. For the g90 I’m running an xggcomms rig with vara HF. Any help is appreciated, even if it’s to tell me I’m overthinking this

I know it can vary, but say a station only has one HD radio stream. I'm trying to decide if I should buy an HD FM tuner like the legendary Sony XDR-F1HD. I love listening to classical on the local FM station via my FM tuner. I think their stream kind of sounds like crap though and has that smeary compressed digital Skype call quality. Would the HD stream sound like that? I know it is digital as well.

Has anyone run into the clusterfuck that is involved renewing your license with the fcc? You can’t send a check. You need to go through something called the Cora system. There are 24 steps and it is the only way you can pay to renew.

The saga continues…. I started out for various reasons with a TRAM glass mount dual band antenna which wasn’t bad but I wasn’t able to adjust SWR down because the adjustment screw arrived broken. I decided I’d splurge for the Larsen glass mount, king of the glass mounts at 3 times the price. Got it all installed and performance is worse then my TRAM was, both RX and TX. Not by a lot, but noticeable. Finally decided I’d get a proper dual band antenna from diamond, NMO mount, got it all mounted right on the hood of my car with a very nice Comet lip mount. Ran the cable into the car, made sure t ..read more

I have a small YouTube channel and was asked a question today in the comments I don't know the answer, I was hoping someone here might be able to help.
A potential new ham said he didn't like the idea of his address being shared every time he gave his call out (understandable), I said he could use a PO Box and that the FCC doesn't care as long as it's a US address. He said could he share a PO box with several people so they could all get a license to the same PO Box? I would think they would want the name to be linked to the address somehow, but I don't know. I couldn't find an answer googlin ..read more
