Problem is you have to get the idle more or less correct before you can run a dynamic timeing.  This is currently the problem I am having and it is complicated by the fact that there is a gas leak at either or both the carb and fuel pump.  Replacements are on order.  As of now I am not sure if you can do a static timeing on a 1970 and later engine ..read more

Good Afternoon Folks I have just purchased a FiberFab MG on a 1970 VW chassis.  Needs some wotk but the price was right and I need someting to tinker with.  Went for the VW based due to ease of working on it and availability of parts.  I am in the process of getting it a safety test but cannot get it to idle.  Appear to have a gas leak at either or both the fuel pump and carb so have new ones on order.   I am sure i will have a number of questions as time goes by but the most obvious one at the moment is how to get rid of the bow legged stance of the rear end. I just had a very poor experience with the company Amerifreight Auto Logistics Corp (M.C# 1596630). I was promised a $200 payment to transport my car from Abilene to Conroe (about a 6hr drive) on April 6. After waiting around the drop off location all day, they call me at night saying no one is picking up my car anymore and that I will need to reschedule. I reschedule for the following weekend and around mid day, they call me and say no one is coming to pick up my car today, unless I pay $500 total. If you are in US you have a number of VW parts outlets that will new carbs from a variety of manufacturers. I use CIP1 as they have a number of carbs at different price points.
