Hello everyone, I am Sumaya, the newest project manager for the Hep B community. I am excited to take on this role and become acquainted with all of you. Part of my role is to ensure the smooth running of the forum, answer any requires and to promote the Hep B community. A bit about myself, I have a bachelor’s degree in Anatomy and Pathology, and a Master’s in Global Health. I have had many exciting roles throughout my career such as my laboratory technician role in Papua New Guinea where I sailed on a hospital ship testing for tuberculosis. As someone who doesn't have Hep B, and who knows very little about this virus, I have several questions about being in a relationship with a man who informed me he's an inactive Hep B carrier

Sure, that is normal among most patients. It’s been 10 years since my diagnosis and I still get a little anxious when it is time for me to get my scheduled tests and wondering what the results might. Many patients will agree with me on this, so you are not alone. I understand it’s impossible, but try not to overwhelm yourself. I am rooting for you my friend. Best, Bansah1 ..read more

dr. @availlant and @Bansah1 thanks you, although I came a long way, I still have emotional struggles when it comes to check ups, the process of it… done with blood work and going in for ultrasound. those few days of waiting and hoping can be taxing. so I believe an HBVDNA of 30 value its quite good! it should be less infectious right? thanks you Gregory ..read more

Hi Thomas. I followed your advice and my doctor included HBsAg quantification on the requisition, but no public lab locally here in Ontario seems to offer quantification. Is this a complicated or special test? Perhaps this is a question for Andrew Vaillant: where can one get a HBsAg quantification test in Canada? Thanks again to you all for your commitment to helping all of us in this community ..read more

Hi Thomas, Thank you for the response!! I greatly appreciate it!! But i have some difficulty understanding the first part, my gf & i are both not health care workers. I read online that saliva also contains HBV DNA & since my gf has an open wound (from getting her wisdom tooth removed), im very worried that my saliva may have infected her through that. Just want to check if you are aware if there are any reported case of transmission by deep kissing, if yes, what are the chances? Yes we are currently waiting for her results if shes clear she plans on getting vaccinated. I certainly hop ..read more

Dear @Concern2024, It really depends what you are being tested for. If you are being tested for anti-HBs antibodies (as I suspect, given the normal value), then this is an indication that you have been successfully vaccinated against Hepatitis B and are completely protected from infection.
