More Showers
Vintage in a Modern World

Last Saturday was my best friends second bridal shower. I shall not get into how I feel about there being a second shower, especially since it was a "personal" shower (i.e. everyone, including elderly relatives, had to bring panties + lingerie for the bride), parties take a massive toll on my health, and the fact that I had already put approx. 50+ hours into my gift for the first shower. I will let you draw your own conclusions about my mood that day.... I feel I should mention this second shower was not the brides decision. She is such a lovely person and good friend, and it was for th ..read more

Cottage Days
Vintage in a Modern World

I recently returned from a lovely few days up at the family cottage. There was lot of swimming, yarn shopping, and coffee sipping, and it was glorious. It was a surprisingly busy and exhausting week but somehow it managed to be refreshing as well.  I didn't really take any outfit shots while I was up there, but I did have to take some photos of my new bathing suit. Yup... I now have an Edwardian-style swimsuit. I knew I needed a new swimsuit this year and opted to make something a little more covered up than my previous 1940's bikini. The reason? Well, mainly because the lake is always ..read more

Changing Seasons

It seems the summer weather has suddenly arrived. I'm not ready!! I'm not a big fan of summer or it's clothing. The days are too warm for my liking and I prefer spring/fall fashions to those of the hot sticky months ahead. I also came to the startling realization the other day that I have very little actual summer wear in my wardrobe, at least for the very high temp days. When I made my wardrobe plan, I somehow missed the fact that I had hardly any light clothing (denial perhaps?). So now I'm scrambling to get a few pieces ready before the humidity reaches oppressive proportions.  Speak ..read more

A 2022 Valentines Day
Vintage in a Modern World

Um, hello. It's been nearly 4 years since I've posted over here. I moved most of my posting over to Instagram for personal-stuff, plus of course my YouTube channel (and corresponding Patreon account) for more educational/informational content. However, lately I've been missing blogging.  I never really liked Instagram, as it lacked the depth that I feel blogs used to have. It is, however, easier and that's where many of my old blogging friends "moved" to. But as reels have taken over, I've become even less entranced with the platform and longing for the old blogging days. There seemed mor ..read more

Old Bed Sheets
Vintage in a Modern World

Whew! It's been a hot summer for far! Between the scorching temperatures and a heat-related flare-up of my cfs/me, I've been dressing up very little over the last few months. Even just existing is difficult in this heat. Did I mention I'm not a summer person?  I was scrolling back through my photos and I realized the last two times I got properly dressed and took outfit photos I was wearing bedsheets. I mean that literally. This fantastic dress and the skirt in the pictures below were both made from old bed sheets. While the Victorian era through to the 1930's are "my eras", I ..read more

Easter Colours
Vintage in a Modern World

Just a quick post today with my Easter outfit. I didn't really plan to get dressed up for Easter, but the day-of I woke up and felt the need for crinolines and fancy hats. As no planning went into this outfit whatsoever, nothing matches. I just grabbed a bunch of "Easter coloured" garments and threw it all together.  The dress is a me-made infinity dress. It's such a versatile piece! I love how the vintage crinoline is slightly longer than the dress and peaks out at the bottom. What's the point of a lovely hued crinoline if no one can see it?! The sweater and shoes are both store-bough ..read more

1923 Jumper and Proper Undergarments (or lack there of...)

Outfits have been ... um.... "interesting" this month. Our washing machine broke about a month and a half ago and the replacement machine arrived damaged. It has taken over a month to get a replacement (argh!), so my outfits have gotten more "creative" as the month has gone by... However, I just finished knitting myself a new sweater so at least I managed one cute outfit this week! This sweater was from a 1923 pattern and knit in one of the softest yarns I have ever felt. It's glorious. I paired it with a me-made skirt and a pair of 1920's style heels.  At a risk of TMI: I'm not weari ..read more

Shawl Time

Whhaaaattt?! Two blogs posts within a few weeks? Yes, I know it's shocking. Haha, I've been terrible at updating lately but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. These photos were mainly taken for my Ravelry so I would have better photos of the shawl I finished for Christmas, but I thought they were cute enough to share here too. The skirt I am wearing is me-made and the shawl was knit from the Haruni shawl pattern (it's a free pattern on Ravelry). I always have a hard time pairing this skirt with anything but black, so I was super excited when I realized I could now also pair i ..read more

Another 3-Hour Sweater

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind comments on my last post. Your kindness and support really means the world to me, and has made the last few crummy weeks seem a lot easier to deal with.  Overall, I've been doing a bit better lately health-wise. Being able to knit again (yay!!!) is also helping me better cope on the "bad days". I can't sew when I'm fatigued and suffering from brain-fog, but I am able to knit which satisfies my need to be productive. It also satisfies my creative urge (I go positively batty if I am unable to make/create something everyday).  In need of a ..read more

Out and About
Vintage in a Modern World

Hello everyone! I'm back with another outfit post. I've been making more of an effort to get dressed up on the few occasions I'm outside. I've been dealing with a bit of a cfs/me flare-up, so lately most of my time has been spent inside the house (at least I have some fun new pajamas to wear!). When I do get out for a bit, I'm trying to make the most of it! For Sunday coffee, I decided to go with a late 1910's / early 1920's look. This is the kind of vintage look that I feel doesn't look particularly "vintage" despite the fact that the sweater was knit from a 1918 pattern. The skirt was made ..read more
