I have a 2003 400ex as states in title this is my problem. Bought it used gets spark replaced wiring harness crank case wires everything. So when starter and case bolt are loose the starter turns the motor over once barley tightened starter just clicks. What would be the cause? Bad starter maybe not enough torque but doesn’t make sense because it starts once bolts are loose as soon as they are tightened just a bit just clicks sometimes doesnt even make a sound. I have a 400ex with 89mm bore(don't believe it affects jetting may be wrong), full hmf competition pipe, and a uni air filter with the airbox lid off, I currently am running a 175 main jet(which seems to be good) and a 42 pilot jet, and the needle in the stock positioning, My air fuel screw is about 2 1/2 turns out. My elevation is slightly below 1,000ft. Bought bushings and everything for the A Arms besides the ball joints cause they are hard to find replacements. I do not wish to purchase new upgrades a arms. I just put a new 440 big bore kit in my 400ex and it does not have a decompression pin, but now when I start it, it rolls over a little bit and stops, the neutral light shuts off and the lights dim a bit, but if you hold the start button it rolls over eventually and starts, could it be the starter? This has been driving me bat shit crazy. I'm working on a friends ATV and can't figure out what it is. She claims its a 2018 Rancher. It came to me with all the body work off and looks like it was pulled out of the ocean. It does have the new style tank so at least its a 14 or up.
