True TF9 Skates / Marsblade R1 Conversions As a long time Sprung user, who loves his Easton Mako skates, both the True TF9 and Marsblade R1 were intriguing options. The True boots are the closest skates on the market to the Mako fit and feel and the Marsblade R1, like Sprungs, offer a more ice like feel than a more traditional flat chassis.   The TF9 Boots – Fit and Feel: My current ice skates are 8EE Easton Mako II’s and my other inline conversions are OG Makos with Sprungs and Mako M7s with Sprungs (both 8EE). My feet are approximately 26.7CM long and I usually wear 10W dress shoes (no ..read more

Why Buying Cheap Skates isn’t Always the Most Economical Choice
Coast to Coast Hockey Shop Blog
by Anthony Thomas

Pandemic related restrictions have led many ice hockey players to buy, or consider buying, inline skates so that they can do some skating outdoors. Unfortunately, some of those skaters found out the hard way that buying a recreational skate isn’t always a great choice if you’re an experienced skater who skates hard, if you’re a heavier player or if you have very wide feet.     Sean’s previous blog, Bauer RS vs RSX Roller Hockey Skates, what's the difference?, already notes that one of the weak points of the entry level skates is the two piece chassis. There’s a picture in the blog an ..read more

We've been playing outdoor roller hockey almost every week for the past 15+ years. There are a ton of places to play for free and with the right group it can be a ton of fun. It isn't easy to break into a group if you are new in town or just getting into hockey; so, I thought I'd try to lay out a few things that may help you build your own community. We can't all start with 30 players and 5 goalies willing to play any day, but you may be surprised by how quickly you can get from a solo skater to a real game!   Simply put, here are a few things you need to grow an outdoor roller community ..read more

Buying Inline Hockey Skates for Wide Feet
Coast to Coast Hockey Shop Blog
by Anthony Thomas

First off, a lot of people think they have wide feet, but not everyone does. To determine if you actually have wide feet, measure both the longest and widest parts of your feet. Then, take the length and divide it by the width and you’ll have your length to width ratio. If the ratio is less than 2.5, then yes, you do have wider than average feet. If it’s between 2.5 and 3 then you have medium width feet and if it’s over 3 then your feet are narrower than average.  The biggest mistake people with wide feet make is buying a skate that’s too long in an attempt to accommodate width. When you ..read more

Why I don't use Marsblade - Part 1, the Original / O1 Frame for a roller hockey guy
Coast to Coast Hockey Shop Blog
by sean @ CTCHS

Why don't I use Marsblade? The conclusion early after experimenting with the original frame (O1) was that Marsblade wasn't for ME or for 'roller hockey' in general. As a year-round roller player coming from Hi-Lo setups for the past decade+. Marsblade's initial offering was heavy, unstable and seemed to make skating harder. Others who play more ice hockey were enjoying it and seeing some performance benefits, but I ultimately went back to my Vapors/Hi-Lo and didn't look back. It seemed like Marsblade was made for ice hockey players. I'm a gear nerd, the general buzz and advertising that surro ..read more
