Trading oil can offer several potential benefits, but it's important to note that it also involves risks. Here are some potential advantages of oil trading: High Liquidity: The oil market is one of the most liquid markets globally. I think: Irena missed the mark here actually:  I think the takeaway is not that USA refiners will pay more, as who can actually REFINE the heavy goop?  No one other than--> USA/JAPAN.   Or more precisely, to MOVE that heavy goop to west coast requires Canada to IMPORT lots and lots of light sweet crude out of North Dakota to Alberta diluting the heavy goop going west... And then this still begs the question: WHO will buy this other than USA west coast refineries?  Maybe Japan?  So, California oil prices will drop is the end result maybe?  Japans oil prices ..read more

A lot of material has come out since I past posted on electric vehicles last year when a host of car dealers wrote to President Biden asking for him to pause a government attempt to mandate such cars, all of it confirming that there is no immediate threat to the oil market from the rise of EVs. In that letter the dealers declared that EVs had their place but more time was needed for consumers to get use to the idea and in the meantime EVs were piling up on their lots. EV apologists at the time tried to brush this aside by claiming that the letter was signed "only" by 20 per cent or s ..read more

While it's certainly true that on a total liquids basis the US is a net exporter, because of biofuels production and refinery gains, the fact remains that based on the most recent EIA data (weekly supply estimates, four-week running average), the US is a net crude oil importer, with US refineries dependent on net crude oil imports of 2.3 million bpd.  To put this in perspective, it's about 50% larger than the peak crude oil production rate from Prudhoe Bay, the largest conventional oil field ever found in the US.  Meanwhile, Hart Energy puts the US oil production decline ra ..read more
