It is with great sadness that I announce my retirement from breeding.  This might come as a shock to many of you, but it has been building for many years.  I attempted to move towards a smaller breed with the Minis, but after 3 Miniatures who had health problems that took them out of the breeding pool, I have given up on that option.  My own health isn’t up to large breed dogs and litters.  I was having extreme anxiety at the thought of breeding Jingle next month, which should not happen. I should be thrilled and happy at the prospect.  I realized I was breeding for o ..read more

One puppy from Mabel and Cody’s litter available! I’m currently trying to decide which of these two beautiful girls to keep as our next generation of Anutta Poodles.  Last week, I paid for DNA color testing on Jack, the male puppy kept by Courtney as a guardian puppy, and these two girls.  I want to know if any of them carry cream or the parti gene.  I suspect Jack does carry for parti, but the two girls do not have a single white hair on them, so I am hoping they do not.  We will see what we get and I can then decide which puppy will stay and which will move on to a new ..read more

Mabel and Cody pups: Week seven photos. With just a week left until Christmas, how could I not take tree photos!  Sabrina’s was blurry and I had already taken down the lights and table, so she had a quick retake on a gift with my camera set on a different setting.  It’s better than totally blurry!  That’s what I get for being in a hurry. Sally – Yellow Collar.  Black Female Sabrina – Red Collar.  Black female Raven – Purple Collar.  Black Female Hilda – Blue collar.  Black female Buffy – Pink Collar.  Black female Burton – Black male ..read more

The Puppies Have Arrived! Yesterday Courtney and her sister drove the long drive from Northwest Arkansas to Memphis to meet up with me and do puppy exchange.  A few things happened, which might come as a shock to you all.  I think Courtney’s still in shock as well. The First Surprise! Twenty-four hours prior, I logged into BetterBred, a breeder software tool I utilize to help keep diversity in my breeding program and in the Standard Poodle gene pool.  The US Postal service lost the pups original swabs, which were taken and mailed when they wree 2 weeks of age.  Last Monday ..read more

Mabel and Cody pups: Week five videos. We had a little drama this week.  Jack, one of the male pups, had some trouble learning how to eat and threw up a couple times during his first few meals.  This led to several trips to the vet and a diagnosis of pneumonia!  After labs, x-rays, antibiotic shots, fluids, nebulizer treatments, he recovered and is doing great!  I was paranoid it was something more serious, but thankful Courtney was so on the ball to get it treated so quickly.  The videos were taken Friday and Saturday and he is doing great.  No other pups have ..read more

Mabel and Cody pups: Week four photos and video. With my traveling to Texas to pick up our new puppy girl, who will get her own blog post tomorrow, I totally missed week 3 photos and videos.  Sorry guys!  In any case, they do not do a ton at that age anyway, so of all the weeks to miss, it was a good one. The pups had their first meal yesterday!  It was mostly goat’s milk, but a bit of puppy mousse added for texture and learning how to eat.  They did great and loved it!  Mabel will be thankful to have a little help in the feeding department.  I’m starting to mull ..read more

Mabel and Cody pups: Week two photos and video. These guys are ready to see the world!  Eyes are opening and everyone is getting super squirmy.  Courtney said getting decent photos was extremely hard!  Don’t worry, Courtney, it will get worse before it gets better.  I think week three to four are the hardest.  Week 5 you can start shape training a sit for attention, so it does get better at that point.  At least it does for me.  We will see how Courtney survives.  Maybe we will end up with more videos!  The post Mabel & Cody pups 2 w ..read more

Puppy Aptitude Testing: What is it and why do it?

What is aptitude testing, or as some people incorrectly call it ‘temperament testing’? Aptitude testing is putting a puppy through a series of ‘test’ to see how they react in different situations. Generally, the test is done in a new location and by a person the puppy does not know.  There are many different types of test out there, but the most popular test is the Volhart Puppy Aptitude.  https://www.volharddognutrition.com/choosing-your-puppy-pat/   Can adult personality be identified at aptitude testing? No, the aptitude testing simply will give a snapshot view into how a pup ..read more

Male Standard Poodle in TX needs new home! Earlier this year, I helped a group of find new homes due to their owner moving into assisted living last year.  One of these dogs was adopted by a family near Austin, TX.  Sadly, their other male dog and this new boy are not getting along.  It seemed to be ok at first, but things have deterated.  This boy, a 6 year old who is already neutered, would do best in a home with no other pets.  He is highly trained and needs a person experienced with the breed.  This boy will adore his new owners, as he is very loving.  ..read more
