Luis Gil (pronounced Heel as in Gila Monster) pitched 1-unearned-run baseball into the 6th inning, striking out 9, and Alex Verdugo got 3 hits and 2 RBI to lead the Yankees to a 5-4 win on a Cold Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. NY put 4 runs on the board in the bottom of the 5th, the rally starting with 2 outs and nobody on — walk, walk, walk, single, single, single — and the bullpen made it stand up, barely. Dennis Santana barely got through the 8th, allowing 3 runs and getting a line drive out with the tying run at 2nd. In the 9th, Victor Gonzalez made a tremendous play for the final out ..read more

Nestor Cortes pitched 7 shutout innings, allowing 6 hits, striking out 9 and walking nobody — a tremendous start. That was the good news. The bad news is that the Yankees never scored, losing 2-0 in 10 innings as Ben Rortvedt put the game away by singling in the 2nd run. And Aaron Judge went 0-4 with 4 strikeouts on his Bobblehead day. On a Sunny, nice Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium — the game played after a tribute to John Sterling that was hastily arranged by NY this week after the sudden announcement of Sterling’s retirement, effective immediately. “Eflin threw well,” said manager Aar ..read more

Juan Soto hit a 3-run BLAST into the Upper Deck in right field in the 8th inning to propel the Yanks to another late inning, come-from-behind win — 5-3 over Tampa on a cold Friday night in the Bronx. The Yanks went into the bottom of the 7th trailing 1-0, but rallied for a run on a couple of Tampa errors to tie it, and went ahead 2-1 on an RBI single by Anthony Volpe. Juan Soto then hit a 3-run BLAST to make it 5-1 NY, as Yankee fans chanted “MVP!, MVP!” The Yanks needed every bit of that lead as Ian Hamilton allowed 2 runs in the 8th, and Clay Holmes invited everyone onto his Rollercoaster Ri ..read more

The Yankees were down 4-1 in the 8th inning and about to get swept in the 3-game series by the Blue Jays, but came back to win 6-4, as Jose Trevino stroked a game-tying single in the top of the 9th, Aaron Judge followed with a Clutch, 2-out single to put NY up 6-4, and Anthony Volpe made a spectacular play behind 2nd to end the game. NY 6 Toronto 4 on a Wednesday afternoon in Toronto in a game that had as many as 8 heroes for NY. Bassitt Makes Yanks Blue. Gil K’s 6, Walks 7. Toronto 3 NY 1

Chris Bassitt mowed the Yankees down for 6.1 innings of 1 run ball, and the Toronto bullpen did the rest in beating NY 3-1 on a Monday night in Toronto. Bassitt allowed 3 straight singles in the 2nd inning for a Yankee run (RBI Oswaldo Cabrera) but other than that was tough to hit. Yankee starter Luis Gil pitched 5 innings, striking out 6 but walking 7 — including 3 in the 2nd inning when he walked in a run, then threw a wild pitch for another run. Toronto made it 3-1 in the 3rd when Gleyber Torres failed to make a play on an infield grounder that was ruled a hit, the runner coming around to s ..read more

All was going good in NY sports on an April Sunday afternoon. The Knicks, down 8 with 9 minutes left, had just come back to win a PRESSURE COOKER in overtime against the Chicago Bulls to end the NBA season in 2nd place with a 50-32 record. The Yankees, up 3-0 early on an Aaron Judge 3-run BOMB, found themselves losing 5-4 after Nestor Cortes pitched well early but got knocked out in the 5th. However, Anthony Volpe hit a CLUTCH, 2-out RBI double in the 9th to tie the game, and NY took a 7-5 lead with 2 runs in the top of the 10th — on an Aaron Judge walk and Anthony Rizzo bases-clearing, 2-RBI ..read more

The vaunted Yankee lineup shredded 6’5 stringbean standout Triston McKenzie with 2 runs in the 1st inning and 4 in the 4th, knocking him out en route to an 8-2 win in the 2nd game of a double header on a Saturday night in Cleveland. So vaunted is this Yankee lineup that Cleveland Cavalier superstar Donovan Mitchell gushed on Twitter, “As a Mets fan this pains me to say lol but the Yankees lineup 1-5 is outrageous!!” as the Yanks were pummeling McKenzie. That 1-5 has Anthony Volpe (.353) leading off, followed by Juan Soto (.333), Aaron Judge (.204 but rising), Anthony Rizzo (.281), and Gia ..read more

Schmidt “Pretty Good” Pitching & Oswaldo HR Carry Yanks. NY 3 Cleveland 2

Clarke Schmidt was “pretty good” — pitching a shutout through the 5th but running into a little trouble the 3rd time through the order in the 6th. By that time he had a 3-0 lead thanks to a 2-run homer by Oswaldo Cabrera in the top of the 6th — and that was all he needed for the win as the Yankee bullpen shut the door on the Guardians. Final score: NY 3 Cleveland 2, on a Saturday afternoon in Cleveland — the first game of a double header. “The walks kinda late got him,” said manager Aaron Boone afterwards. “But I thought he was pretty good. I thought his stuff looked good. He was getting swing ..read more

Juan Soto walked to load the bases with 2 outs in the 9th inning, bringing up Aaron Judge with the tying runs on base — but Judge flied out to centerfield on the 2nd pitch from ace reliever Tanner Scott. Alas the Yankees lost 5-2 on a Wednesday night at a cold, damp Yankee Stadium (temps around 50 degrees or less). Ryan Weathers, a highly regarded 24-year old lefty, started and pitched 5 shutout innings for the win. Ryan is the son of former Yankee David Weathers, the 19-year MLB reliever who was brilliant for the Yankees in the 1996 playoffs. Marcus Stroman was done in by a 3-run HR by Dick B ..read more

Carlos Rodon continues to look good in this his 2nd season in NY. In this game he pitched a shutout into the 7th at Yankee Stadium on a Tuesday night — leaving with a 3-0 lead although bases loaded due to serendipity — a walk, error by Anthony Rizzo, and grounder to 3rd that Jon Berti made good play on but the ball dropped out of his glove. Ian Hamilton came in to retire the side, with no earned runs charged to Rodon. Hamilton pitched a shutout 8th as well and Clay Holmes was Filthy in the 9th for the save and 3-2 Yankee win. NY’s offense came on a Yankee Stadium Homer by lefty Alex Verdugo in ..read more
