As a self proclaimed foodie, I go out of my way to try new and unique food and drinks when I travel, immersing myself with the culture through the cuisine. This means lots of restaurant hopping and smaller meals to be able to try more. So here is a recap of them all from my 4 day and 4 night trip to New Orleans. Majority of what we had would be from the French Quarter, where we were staying. And specifically Bourbon Street, with the most options there. The following is in the order which we visited Rampart Treehouse Upon landing and settling in to our hotel, we spent our first night explorin ..read more

New Orleans Trip 2024

My girl friend was travelling to New Orleans for a work conference and I invited myself along, seeing as I have never been and have always wanted to. And here, she was kind enough to offer me free accommodations at her work paid for hotel room. For the most cost effective option, our flight with American Airlines left at 7am on the Easter Monday Holiday: April 1st, 2024. And as an international flight, and without me having Nexus or preferred boarding I arrived 3 hours earlier, only to wait for the boarder guards to start their shifts. This was the first flight of the day so lines were minima ..read more

The one perk about having to check into the airport 3 hours before an international flight is the ability to explore and sometimes try food that you can’t get from your airport, at home. Case in point, waiting for my plane ride back to YVR and Vancouver, from the SJD airport in Mexico, after a successful trip to Cabo all inclusive. (More about that in another post to come). I had breakfast earlier in the day, and actually packed some food for the plane ride. But that didn’t stop me from exploring the food court enroute to my gate. I was familiar with all the brands and offerings there: Subway ..read more

St Augustine’s, Happy Hour

On this today we were looking to wind down from a spirit-full afternoon with a couple of beers. Our destination was the long standing Commercial Drive watering hole: St. Augustine’s. A bar named after the patron saint of brewers, amongst other disciplines. We originally wanted to have our drink and some small bites on the patio, given the sunny day. However, after seeing a poster announcing that they are part of the Vancouver Foodster Pizza Challenge, and that they have a pie worth trying, but could only have it if we dined in; we did just that. Our group of 5 were seated at one of the lengt ..read more

2024 Nissan Sentra SR Premium

This week we were behind the wheel of the 2024 Nissan Sentra SR Premium. An affordable option with all the advanced technology and premium finishes that you would expect from a modern 2024 sedan. The exterior was handsome with sleek body lines. A good looking vehicle, especially with the electric charged blue body paint. With its lowered stance this felt like a sports car. A sportiness furthered by the stylish carbon fibre accent panels around the window frame, arm rest, and cup holder. You also got a bit of a bucket scoop in the seat, but no lumbar support. This was an electric adjustment f ..read more

House of Comedy, Trixx

Seeing as we earned two free tickets during our last visit to New Westminster’s House of Comedy, we decided to use them this Friday night. They are good for any show, that isn’t listed as a “special presentation” such as for Patrick Ho, in a couple of weeks. He is a notable tik-toker who specializes in comedic timing skits. But I digress. No reservation needed, you just walk in with your passes and are immediately seated first come, first serve. They fill up the front, closest to the stage first, with the largest groups right by the base of the stage. This was the second of 4 nights for our ..read more

Today we were getting a behind the scenes look at Fairmont Waterfront’s latest collaboration. This is time for the nicer weather, and corresponds to the entire property’s menu update, (an occasion that occurs 3-4 times a year). Along with this overhaul is a luxury burger worth coming downtown for. This is their straight-forward-ly named “Wagyu Burger”, in collaboration with social media sensation Chef Laurent Dagenais. Laurent is known for his colourful and decadent recipes, which he creates with such flair online. His latest video has he and ARC Executive Chef Adam Middleton’s preparing this ..read more

For those who don’t know, there is a gelato shop located at the base of the copper Parq Casino. This is Passione Gelato, specializing in mirco-batch artisan gelato and sorbetto. Owned and operated by Salvatore Boccarossa, who decided to start his own gelateria, after years of working at the famed Bella Gelateria; which is no longer in business, but Passione is, and looking forward to their 5th year anniversary. Although, things have a funny way of coming full circle as you can also find Sal spearheading the gelato program at Kitchen Table Group’s Motorretta, which has now taken over the old s ..read more

The Vancouver food scene travels in waves, and if you wait long enough, any lines that you may have paused at for a new and/or popular restaurant will eventually dissipate. Case in point, Chung Chun. Its once lengthy queues for meat on a stick has been reduced to a quick service and we were here for it. Tonight I was dining in at their standing room only, hover counter with Joyce of @monkeyeatsworld; as we both highly enjoy the convenience and novelty of meat on sticks. Although they do offer more than that, in a handful of complementary sides that we would actually try on this visit. Their ..read more

We first discovered Two Rivers meat shoppe and butchery during the onset of the covid pandemic. This is when restaurants were closed and people were looking to fill that void by cooking at home. We came down to North Vancouver to purchase their quality meat products that includes charcuterie, sausages, steaks, pork chops, and already marinaded chicken wings. A large selection behind glass and the seasonings and sauces to pair with it. You also got a look at the butchery behind this assembly. And similarly their open kitchen on the other side of the room, if you decide to dine-in or order any ..read more
