What is your body telling you?

Life is busy. Often it is too busy for us to have time to really hear what our bodies are trying to tell us. Warning signs can fade into the background noise of daily life and become normal. We often don’t prioritise time to be still enough to hear what our body has to say. This is something I was incredibly guilty of until around this time last year when I started having massage with a great friend and therapist – @om_holisticmassagebristol She finally shone the light on me and my busy hectic life and asked ‘but when are you still?’ and a huge lightbulb went off in ..read more

Seasonal Affective Disorder

For many, this time of year means the delights of pumpkin picking with the family, big fluffy jumpers, the return of the PSL, cosy nights in, indulging in comfort food, Christmas shopping and get togethers, Christmas lights and family time.   For others, it proves a little more difficult. Energy levels decrease with the dark nights drawing in, sensory overload with additional clothing and bright lights, financial pressures, feeling isolated, lonely, anxious and depressed. Seasonal Affective Disorder is prevalent for many of us. Unfortunately there is no quick solution, and if it was easy ..read more

Trauma & Mental Health

Although we are Sports Massage Therapists, did you know that we have a collective special interest in trauma and mental health?   Sports Massage holds a misleading title, which understandably gives the impression that you have to be involved in sport to benefit. But this is not at all true!   When we are subjected to trauma and stress, be it long term or a single event, our bodies react as well as our brain.   Trauma can replay in our minds and show up in day to day activities and interactions trapping us in the past and replaying the event. Our minds and bodies are connected, y ..read more

Do you still have a sore ankle in certain positions or after particular activities after twisting it a while ago? Are you still limited in movement after an old shoulder injury or operation? Does your hamstring still bother you and get stiff after sports following a bad tear?   Even though old injuries or previous operations may seem like a long time ago, you could still experience pain and discomfort due to scar tissue being left in that area. Scar tissue is a completely normal part of healing. Scar tissue does however, only lay down in relation to the direction of force which is put on ..read more

Now offering cupping!

We are super happy to announce that we are now able to offer cupping!   In cupping, cups are suctioned to the skin to increase blood and lymph flow to the treated area. In contrast to massage techniques, cupping involves pulling the skin away from the body to achieve results.   Muscles and joints can become restricted as a result of stiff fascial connections. By relaxing the connective tissue (fascia) that covers muscles mobility can be improved in the treated area.   As well as being a form of deep tissue massage cupping can aid pain management, inflammation and relaxation. Price Changes

As you know I have been trying my utmost to avoid increasing our prices as our mission is to always make manual therapy as accessible to everyone. We’re all in a position where prices are increasing tenfold and I didn’t want to add to the problem. It makes me disappointed to say that we are no longer in a position where we can continue to absorb the price increases we are experiencing from our services and suppliers. From October 1st 2022 we will be increasing our prices by £3 for all appointment types, and by £1 for products. I have kept this as modest as possible, as I am aware it feels like ..read more

HAVING BACK PAIN ISN’T A NORMAL PART OF GROWING UP

Do you wake up in the morning to one of your first thoughts being about pain or stiffness? Do you have to orchestrate a clumsy shuffle to be able to roll yourself out of bed, before delicately balancing and prizing yourself upright before you’re able to walk off and get on with your day?   This is not normal, and definitely not something that you can’t do anything about. Despite the memes and jokes about waking up and putting your back out by simply getting out of bed, it isn’t just a product of hitting 30!   The first task of the day, shouldn’t be this difficult! Get in touch to see ..read more

“You just need to loose weight” and other such bullsugary! Shall we address it now? I think we should address it now.   I can’t tell you how many (I could, but I lose count of nonsense) people walk through our doors who have been told that their pain, discomfort and restricted ability to move is caused by their weight, are refused any further help until they lose said weight and left feeling like they are utterly helpless and succumb to a life decreased in quality.   I am going to sit here from my little keyboard and shout as loud as I can to tell you not to listen!! You CAN do somet ..read more
