Can you help with back pain?

This is one of the most common questions I am asked. The answer is, I can certainly assess your condition and most likely set you on the path to recovery with some treatment(s) and a bespoke rehabilitation programme. Sometimes I may need to refer you to a more appropriate person such as a physiotherapist or GP to get a scan or x-ray to confirm my thoughts. Although, this is generally for more serious conditions and only to confirm or rule out a particular cause. Lots of cases of lower back pain are muscular in nature and can be treated with massage therapy and directed self help. Many people s ..read more

During my sports massage therapy treatments, I utilize many techniques for the benefit of the client. I take a holistic approach to assessment and treatment in every case. The techniques mentioned here are extremely effective in many cases, so I'll explain a little further about them. The fascia is a tough connective tissue that spreads throughout the body in a 3-dimensional web from head to foot functionally without interruption. It is a living tissue and has memory. It has been estimated that if every structure of the body except the fascia were removed (bones, muscle, etc), the body would r ..read more

During lockdown number 1, way back in April many healthcare providers were forced to shut down due to the lack of knowledge of the Covid-19 virus. Many people, myself included, struggled to get appointments or medical treatment for painful conditions and injuries and had to 'put up with things' that could have been resolved much quicker had they been treated in a timely fashion. Now in lockdown number 3, there is much more information on the virus, how it spreads, how to test for it and how to treat it. We even have the great news of several vaccines being rolled out for everyone. In the meant ..read more

It's quite shocking to me, the number of places offering sports massage that just isn't sports massage. As a passionate therapist and member of both the Federation of holistic therapists and the Sports Therapist Association I believe there is a need to raise the standards for true sports massage. I've been for a couple of 'treatments' myself recently which despite being advertised as sports massage, have basically been Swedish type massage with faster or deeper strokes (sometimes there is no difference at all!). No assessment offered, no special testing or even basic range of movement assessme ..read more

Pregnancy can be an exciting time, but as your body is changing and adjusting it can also result in aches and pains as well as some stress and tiredness. Massage during pregnancy is important because it promotes relaxation, which in turn helps release 'feel good' endorphins which can benefit both mother and unborn baby. After your twelve week scan and with the agreement of your midwife and / or doctor, massage can be beneficial in many ways. Some of which are: Releases muscular tension in affected areas and eases discomfort of conditions such as sciatica and other common conditions, associate ..read more

It's been a while since I posted anything on my blog so thought I'd take this opportunity to jump on and say a few words. I've had a really busy few months treating and assessing clients whilst constantly researching and training to get the best possible outcomes for those clients in every case. I purposely set up my appointment availability to allow plenty of time to review each case before treatment, allow discussion and feedback from clients and ensure that it does not feel like a conveyor belt where I'm rushing people through to get to the next appointment. I make sure I take the time to g ..read more
