I am very lucky in that at 57 I have an old civil service defined benefit scheme which will start paying £35k in three years and an additional £400k in two DC pension pots. I earn really good money but cannot really face working any more so I am thinking of accessing my pension early by moving the DC to drawdown and living on tax free cash until I fall out of the higher tax brackets and to maximise the CPI uplift to my BD fund (not least the increase to the three year tax free lump sum element).

I recently heard, like the USA de-funding Social Security to fund Vietnam, and leaving useless IOU's. It is now pilfering a few government pension funds and leaving more IOU's in those pension funds?

Our company will dissolve when customers can utilize new electric technology and clean air sources. The pension and benefits are overfunded by millions. All of them, executive, company and union. If the company would go under in a few years, where does this money go? Can we tap to keep afloat longer, or is it ultimately divided among living beneficiaries?

Hi - grateful for any advice here. I’m a UK national, paying National Insurance contributions since approx 1994. Between 2003-2008 I resided in the US. I was self employed, paying Social Security etc.
I returned to the UK in 2008, have been working full time since then. I now realise that I have 5 years unpaid NI, and this will affect my state pension.
What should I do? Will my years paying US SocialSec offset the UK shortfall? Am I due US pension?! The UK Gov website suggests I could retrospectively pay missing years contributions - but only within the last 6 financial years, so that’s not a ..read more
