I was frustrated and vented to my best friend over margaritas in 2014. Why was it so hard to find an honest recruiter? I was drinking away my blues from finding out that day that I was working a contract and making about $400 less a week than a co-worker who had the same company as me (just a different recruiter). “Recruiters are allowed to just pay us anything they want?! They are treating us like a used car sales lot!” I said. “I wish there were a place that we could go to find the honest recruiters, how are we even supposed to know who is being fair without learning the hard way? Hi I’m Laura – the founder of Nomadicare and commonly known as the recruiter matchmaker! When I was a traveler, I found out I was making $400 less a week for the same job just because I was working with a dishonest recruiter. In that frustration, I created Nomadicare to help travelers not get taken advantage of like I did! Nomadicare is where you get matched to honest companies and recruiters and find out if you are getting paid fair (before you say yes to a contract!) As a traveler, I used to have two major concerns.  First, I worried that I might miss out on incredible jobs just becaus ..read more

Housing is a super important part of the travel healthcare industry. We as travel therapists (Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists) have to find short-term housing for all of our travel assignments (unless we’re living the RV life of course). And finding housing arrangements as a travel therapist can be challenging. Sometimes we can’t find the housing options or lease agreements that we need or that we can afford. This is where our three choices come into play: take agency-provided housing, take the housing stipend and do the housing search ourselves, or p ..read more

Who here loves the word “free”? I know I do And as a travel therapist, I of course would be intrigued by hearing or seeing the words “free housing”! Travel therapy housing can be challenging in this travel healthcare industry – you can’t always find affordable housing options in the locations you want to go to or if you do find suitable housing it may not exactly be a prime location. If free short-term housing was really an option, I think all of us healthcare travelers would jump on that opportunity. But I’m here to tell you the truth, friends – and the truth is “free housing” does not exist ..read more

Time and time again I get messages just like this one: “Hey, Laura! I’m a travel therapist. I’m currently working with two recruiters and one of them is starting to make me feel bad for it. They said it was pointless to work with other agencies and that they all have access to the same opportunities. He said I should just pick the recruiter I feel comfortable with. Is it true? Do all staffing agencies have the same travel therapy jobs? Please help!” Those messages make me feel so frustrated for us as travelers and hearing things like that from a recruiter isn’t that uncommon! I always re ..read more
