After being home in Virginia all of January, we were back on the road again in February. At the beginning of the month we left on a 2.5 week road trip down to Key West. The main purpose of this trip was to visit Dry Tortugas National Park south of Key West. Along the way we stopped in Fort Meyers to speak at the Florida PT Student Conclave. We also visited several friends and followers on the drive there and back in various places through NC, SC and FL.
We successfully made it to Dry Tortugas on this trip, unlike our first attempt at going in 2022! That makes National Park 61/63 for us! We wer ..read more

January was an awesome month. We spent a full month at home for the first time in almost two years which gave us an opportunity to get into more of a routine and get a lot of work done. Diet and exercise were our primary focus for the month, and Whitney and I both lost about 10 lbs each which is long overdue with all of the eating out we’ve done while traveling internationally. We always struggle to maintain our weight while moving around so often, so we do our best to take advantage of time at home to be as healthy as possible.
I got a lot of new articles written which will be published over ..read more

We finished up our trip around the world in December. The majority of the month was spent in American Samoa (where we visited our 60th national park) and New Zealand before making it back home just in time for Christmas. In New Zealand, we rented a car and drove all around the country for about 2.5 weeks. This was the first time we’ve ever done a road trip in another country (aside from driving through Canada), and we picked an amazing place to do it. New Zealand, especially the south island, is absolutely amazing. New Zealand is our new favorite country in the world out of the 42 that we’ve v ..read more

Wow, 2022 was an extremely busy year for us. We started off the year with a couple week road trip to Florida. Soon after returning, we spent 10 weeks traveling all over Latin America. After that was a quick turn around to our 4 month summer adventure driving to/from and living in Alaska. A couple of days after getting home, we flew to Las Vegas for a conference. Two weeks later, we flew to Mexico for a week in the sun at a resort. Then, less than a week after returning home, we left on our next big adventure, 9 weeks traveling around the world! I would say that we met our goal of traveling to ..read more

We spent all of November traveling on our trip around the world. Although our most expensive long international trip, this one has been my favorite. I’ll be writing about my total expenses once we get back home. I’m pretty sure I’ll spend more in 9 weeks on this trip than in 5 months traveling around the world in 2018 or 4 months in Europe in 2019. Part of that is due to traveling to more expensive places this trip but also due to wanting more comfortable accommodations than in the past. In 2018 and 2019 when we were trying to be much more cost conscious, we’d often stay in private rooms in pe ..read more

2022 has been a whirlwind of travel! We started out the year with a few week road trip from Virginia to Florida and back. Then we spent 10 weeks traveling around Latin America. Almost immediately after returning from Latin America, we hit the road to Alaska where we spent the summer working part time and exploring. This included the road trip to and from Alaska, through Canada & the US. After that, it was a week in Las Vegas for a conference. Soon after, we spent a week in Acapulco, Mexico. With all the traveling combined with trying to keep up with the growth of our online business Travel ..read more

After a three week road trip from Alaska, we arrived back home in Virginia in September. The drive went pretty smoothly for how many miles were covered. Whitney wrote an article discussing everything we did on our road trips to and from Alaska and while in Alaska. You can read all about it here. My article discussing all of my expenses this summer can be found here.
Once back home we had only a short time to unpack and repack before heading to the Traveler’s Conference in Las Vegas. This was our fourth TravCon and the first time that we have flown instead of driving. Driving just wasn’t an opt ..read more

Background & Planning
Alaska has been on our list of places to visit for a long time, and it had been in the back of our minds to take a Travel PT contract there at some point in the future. After traveling extensively over the last several years, we had visited 49 of the US States by the end of 2021, with Alaska being the only one left! This really got us thinking about how we could make it out there in 2022.
Since we no longer work full time in the clinic, and we have our online business, we do have the flexibility to travel to places for several months just for leisur ..read more

In August we finished up our travel contracts in Alaska, and, in the middle of the month, headed back to Virginia on another long road trip. While it was very sad to leave Alaska and accept that our amazing summer there was coming to an end, we couldn’t wait to spend some time back at home before embarking on our next adventures. The road trip back was even better than the drive to Alaska since we could take our time and stop more often. We ended up spending three weeks on the road and covering 5,300 miles! You can read more about my spending and a summary of our time in Alaska and on the road ..read more

Whitney and I have wanted to take a road trip to Alaska and explore the state for several years now. In fact, for our very first travel physical therapy assignments, we almost accepted 6 month contracts in Anchorage, but ended up staying closer to home instead. The problem always was that it’s very far away from where Whitney and I are from in Virginia, and also it’s a very expensive state. Early in our travel therapy careers, our primary focus was saving as much money as possible, which for us meant taking moderately paying contracts in very low cost of living areas and doing our best to take ..read more
