Sadhguru and the “celestial snake”

Some claims of Sadhguru are too crazy and his “Dhyana Linga” story is full of such stuff. I tweeted about an incident from this story on Twitter! The very same people who call Gurus like Satya Sai Baba tricksters fall for Sadhguru’s magic tales. Here is Sadhguru talking about a “celestial snake” biting him on his belly to magically cure his health. Before him, Satya Sai Baba looks like a great rationalist! My thoughts on Sadhguru’s BBC interview controversy

Sadhguru walked away from a BBC Tamil interview and I tweeted about this with my thoughts: It is rare for Sadhguru to lose his cool before the media. I am quite surprised that he got angry for a question that Isha and their volunteers have already responded in the past. Sadhguru has a knack for handling tough questions and this is a rare slip. https://t.co/k7kDAJKBFe — KSM Phanindra (@ksmphanindra) June 11, 2022 It is rare for Sadhguru to lose his cool before the media. You never know… When an ordinary interest in Sadhguru turns into an intense passion How he suddenly becomes the sole purpose of your life Is it His grace and divine blessing? Or is it infatuation and brain-washing? Who knows and who can decide? May be only your heart can But can it, if it is already dedicated to Him? May be only He knows what He is doing Or may be even He doesn’t! The spell of His smile! How it enchants How it assures How it makes you bow down to Him! You never know… What that smile is doing to you Is it liberating you or is it binding you? The light you are seekin ..read more

Does Isha destroy families and relationships?

Many marriages have ended because of Isha. Many parents were distressed when their children left them for Isha. But is it fair to blame Isha for an individual’s personal decision? The answer is complicated. This article explores some aspects of it. Typical scenarios It often happens like this – people discover Sadhguru and get fascinated. They do Isha practices and find them very beneficial, even blissful. They start volunteering and find it very satisfying. They start dedicating a significant amount of their time to Isha and then frictions emerge in their relationships.  A spouse/partne ..read more

An open letter to Isha devotees!

This post will likely be my last post on Isha & Sadhguru. I don’t plan to actively write on this topic anymore as I think everything required to be said has already been said. I want to use this post to say a few last things to serious devotees of Isha – dedicated practitioners, long time volunteers and anyone building their life around Isha. I call them “Isha devotees”. Please also check my previous post – A response to: Why do you keep finding faults with Sadhguru (must-read insights from another ex-Isha devotee!). This post extends what was said there to make a few more points. I have w ..read more

I recently got a comment on my Yashoda controversy article by a user named John Hong. He asked me several critical questions that are very important to answer. I thank him for those questions. I provided a short response to these questions but they require a much deeper reply. Thankfully, another user Anand who says that he “has spent a considerable time with Isha as an Insider” provided a very detailed reply that is wonderful and a must-read. So I am reproducing it here as a new post. Many thanks to Anand for his fabulous reply! John Hong’s question You said good bye to Isha years ago. I wond ..read more

Sadhguru’s wife’s death – Isha’s response analyzed

I have earlier written on Sadhguru’s wife Vijj’s death and also analyzed the police reports. There are still several open questions surrounding her death though Isha seems to think that they have answered everything! I recently saw their official response – Slander sans substance. Their “fact-check” looks great to the uninformed but it fails to explain any of the key questions surrounding Vijji’s death! Let us take a look! Isha’s response is below (copied from their website): Fiction: There was a controversy about Smt Vijayakumari’s passing; the cremation was hush-hush Fact: On 23rd January 19 ..read more

Newslaundry’s 3 part series on Sadhguru

Newslaundry, an Indian news portal, published a 3 part critical series on Sadhguru – On A Godman’s Trail by journalist Prateek Goyal. In general, I do not trust Indian English media to provide unbiased news, because all the news organizations and web portals have strong political leanings, ideologies and vested interests. In the US, there are independent agencies classifying media bias (e.g Media Bias Chart) but I haven’t seen anything like that in India and all news portals keep claiming that they are unbiased and are bringing truth to the people! So I am pretty sure Newslaundry also has thei ..read more

A closer look at Sadhguru’s Yashoda controversy

I noticed a curious controversy that broke out recently on Sadhguru’s words regarding Lord Krishna’s mother Yashoda. The controversy itself is based on a misunderstanding of Sadhguru’s intent (caused by a poor choice of the words he used, as I will show) and may have been triggered by vested interests. But what interested me more were the parts of Sadhguru’s speech that many people did not pay much attention to. I believe those are a lot more damaging to Sadhguru’s credibility than the words that caused the trouble. I have also seen how some Isha volunteers have blindly defended Sadhguru and t ..read more

Some thoughts on Isha’s #EmptyTwitterTrash campaign

Recently I saw a Twitter thread from Isha Foundation tagged #EmptyTwitterTrash criticizing vested interests circulating false propaganda against Isha –  Twitter has become an important public forum in our society and vital to our democracies. It's important to keep it clean of abuse, slander and vitriol. #EmptyTwitterTrash @TwitterIndia — Isha Foundation (@ishafoundation) November 21, 2020 When will @TwitterIndia take a stand against being a platform to peddle lies? In this country, are we going to continue to allow such a Band of Liars with obviously vested interests to rampantly pr ..read more
