I am not in Seattle this week so I had to watch the Fabric GA (general availability) announcement session with Amir, Arun, Justyna, Jessica and Patrick. And wow – although I could try and play with Microsoft Fabric in private and public preview and even build some PoC for our customers I was really impressed by the news that were announced during the session. Note: It’s not too late to register for Ignite (virtual edition) for free and re-watch the recording of this session (https://ignite.microsoft.com/en-US/sessions/1eff13d6-1924-435a-8778-111d7131f061?source=sessions) But now, it’s time fo ..read more

Another nice feature update for administrators hit Microsoft Fabric – tenant settings got a search box! Before the this new feature was added to the tenant settings page in October, you had one chance to search for the right tenant setting in the long list – the browser search feature. Just hit CTRL + F and search for i.e. Excel. With the new search box, you can now easily filter the long list of tenant settings. What I really like is, that the title and the description is included in the search – so for my Excel keyword in the text box, five settings are returned. If you want to see this fe ..read more

Long time, no Power BI blog post from my side. But today I found out, that the testing of your row-level-security (RLS) logic in the Power BI service changed “a little bit” since I last used it. Whenever you want to test your RLS logic, you can do this in Power BI Desktop (Mange Roles for definition, “View as” for testing). Test row-level security in Power BI Desktop OR: you can test your logic in the Power BI service. Options-menu on the dataset -> Security will open the list of defined roles in your dataset. The Row-Level Security page lists you all the defined roles and with the three li ..read more

Wouldn’t it be handy to have an option to testdrive some Microsoft 365 scenarios including the full app suite (in M365 E5?). There are trial licenses available but what if you want to create more test users and you do not want to create test/sample data on your own?
