Some people really don’t like the “tell me about yourself” question at interview. It can feel like you must talk yourself up and you may not be comfortable doing that. You think that your track record should speak for itself. Unfortunately, it’s not necessarily the best person for the job but the person who articulates their experience clearly. And sometimes that means you haven’t done enough self-reflection to be able to do that succinctly. Do you know at a deep level what it is you have to offer a potential employer? Think about when potential clients call and ask me about myself and my expe ..read more

Are you a woman with experience and wisdom, who has spent most of your life looking after other people, and listening and responding to others need? Now you have freedom, it feels like you are done. You suddenly feel old and as if all the dreams you had have passed you by and now it’s too late for new opportunities. A career change may feel like a good idea, but that persistent voice in your head questions if that is possible and asks who would hire you anyway at your age? You are definitely not alone. For many of us, the unexpressed voice, and the feeling that it’s too late to fulfill ce ..read more

Are you a team leader working hard to build a productive and cohesive team? And somehow despite your best efforts some of the personalities will not play nice with each other. Maybe you are heading up a marketing team and the analytical data people don’t gel with the creative, intuitive marketers. Or maybe it’s the finance team that can’t get on with the sales team. And even though you have tried a variety of approaches, you have reached a point that you think nothing will work. Have you thought about collaborating with your team on wellbeing and strengths-based working instead of the usual te ..read more

Are you in the wrong job?

If you feel like you are in the wrong career and you are not energised by your work, understanding your strengths at a deeper level can change all that. Often clients tell me they are in a career they ‘fell’ into. They did well and as they learnt more, the role grew, or they got promoted. And when they changed jobs, they automatically looked for the next step up. But that didn’t necessarily bring them the job satisfaction they were looking for. I am sure a lot of people can relate to this. But if there is one good thing that the COVID pandemic has taught us is that life is too short to be in a ..read more

You don’t need to sell yourself at interviews

I’m not good at selling myself at interviews? How often do you say that? And to be honest it’s not about selling yourself, it’s about understanding what you have to offer and being able to clearly articulate it. After all, if you went to a surgeon for an operation and they weren’t able to articulate what they were going to do, you wouldn’t think ‘they can’t sell them-self’. You would just think they weren’t very competent and you would look elsewhere. It’s the same with interviews. If you have a deeper understanding of your skills and experience and what you have to offer, it shouldn’t feel li ..read more

Sometimes your career can feel a bit like driving to a new destination where your satnav is taking you the long way around. It can be annoying and frustrating but if you take the same journey again, this time you will know the shortcuts. We often worry about making the wrong choices and decisions in life, especially when it comes to our career. Sometimes clients will say, I made a mistake taking this job or I am not sure whether to accept this offer. Or I know I want a change, but don’t know what that is or how to find out. And while nobody wants to go down the wrong path, in the end whatever ..read more

Everybody has gifts that are unique to them. Sure, you might be doing the same types of roles with the same results, but the way you approach it will be different. Each of us has strengths that are inherent and come naturally. If this were not true, we would all have the same personality and be doing our job in exactly the same way as each other. Even if we have the same strengths as our colleague, we will still use them in a different way to them. And if you take the time to explore you may see how your strengths were already showing up in your childhood. If you are not sure what you have to ..read more

This year I am coming up to 10 years in my coaching business and I have been reflecting on clients and trends. What sorts of things have we worked on over the years? And how have things have changed, particularly in the last two years. While there has been a lot to reflect on, one thing stands out for me. One of the biggest factors over 10 years in clients successfully reaching their goals is making internal shifts within themselves. Here is a sample of clients I have worked with over the years and their results from our coaching program. Client confidentiality is key here, so this is a brief ..read more

You may be thinking I already know what my strengths are and how I use them. But doing a Strengths Profile gives you a much deeper understanding of what strengths lead to your success and what behaviours hold you back from even greater results. Having further insight into what makes you tick and what leads to your successes, is a powerful tool and all the research shows that it leads to better wellbeing as well as increased performance. Also if you are struggling with self-belief, doing a Strengths Profile helps to build evidence to show you that you have more of value to offer than you may fe ..read more
