Who is loving this weather??? I am for sure! I can't wait to get outside again and start doing what I love to do. It's time to get into the gardens. Are you ready? This spring is going to be busy. Our weather patterns are changing. We need to be able to jump in as soon as we can to get our gardens and lawns ready for summer. The window between winter and summer seems to be getting so much smaller. I noticed on my walks and drives through various communities last year that many people took the more natural approach to gardening and left their gardens in less than pristine conditions: More leav ..read more

Many of us have big ideas of how things should be. Maybe it is your goal to have all the latest tech or the most luxurious furniture. If you are like the majority of us, you have learned that sometimes wanting those things is just that. Wanting. It doesn't mean that it will happen unless you are able to shift some priorities around. Going without food or heat to upgrade your phone isn't the best choice.... Priorities. A big part of why I love what I do is because I get to figure out how to make something the best I can with what I have to work with. I have learned through my many years to be ..read more

Season's greetings everyone. I hope you have a wonderful holiday with friends and family. No snow for Santa this year in our neck of the woods... Although snow is a nice treat to look at during the holidays, on the flip side, we won't have to shovel. Always look on the bright side. Thank you for a wonderful 2023. I am so happy to be a part of your life. I had the privilege of caring for beautiful gardens with some great people. I loved designing new garden plantings and bringing them to life. I am looking forward to watching the new gardens develop in the coming years ahead. As we await for Sp ..read more

There's more than a few things I love about summer. My gardens are exploding with colour, keeping things bright and cheerful. It is impossible to say what I love the most. There are so many great producers of beautiful plants! Thanks to Proven Winners, Endless Summer, Knockout, First Editions and Fernlea for example, we are planting more and more plants that keep going and going giving a seemingly endless show of beautiful blooms. They make our lives easier and our gardens even more magnificent usually with the bonus of better disease resistance and not quite as needy. Having a balance of woo ..read more

"I am blessed" is one of the terms that has been widely used in recent times by many. To me, it has lost a bit of its value as it has become so common. I feel I can use it right now to its full value to describe how I am feeling about the people I have worked with and encountered while starting this new venture. My clients are amazing people. Most of the people I have been creating gardens for and overhauling their overgrown gardens have opted to work alongside me. It has been fabulous! Not only have we created great garden spaces but we have enjoyed some great conversation, had great workouts ..read more

Hi. It is so good to be here! I grew up in a family landscaping and maintenance business. One of the best. My parents started Green Thumb Landscaping in 1971. I worked my way from the ground up and loved every minute. OK, a bit of a lie. It wasn't always sunshine and roses. It was a labour of love.... rain, staffing issues, Christmas snow storms, but we made it through and we all worked so hard to build up to being one of the most reputable, reliable and professional landscaping companies in the GTA. I started my landscaping journey at 16, on the garden crew and through the years transferred ..read more

This note was found in a box of old files the other day. So near and dear to my heart. Now that it has been found, I will have to find a home for it on my wall. As I mentioned before, my parents, John and Kathy Thomas, started Green Thumb Landscaping in 1971. Quality has always, always, always been at the forefront. I was born into it and it stuck with me. Dad was not someone who handed out praise easily. I don't remember when he wrote this, but it must have been at least 30 years ago. Quality was very important to me then and it is just as important now. What he says in this note is exactly ..read more

It might feel like a long time away but it will be here before you know it. Be ready when the snow melts for your Spring Cleanup. Here’s a list of to-do’s: * Remove shrub winter wrap before it gets too warm. You don't want to cook your plants. * Remove holiday lights. Twinkle pergola lights are totally acceptable in the summer. * Check the lawns for treasures if you (or your neighbour's) have four legged friends. * Rake lawns and gardens to clean up twigs, leaves and debris * Clean the window wells and behind the shed. * Cut back perennial skeletons and grasses. * Remove any annuals and weeds ..read more
