I paid a visit to Choosing Keeping - a stationary shop in London.   https://choosingkeeping.com/   Seeing that I was in London anyway, I dropped by to get some Sailor & Pilot cartridges to save some postage.    The shop has a range of Kaweco, Pilot, Sailor and other pens and a wide range of Japanese and their own brand of notebooks and cards along with a whole range of desk accessories.    It was heartening to see a student getting help with choosing her first fountain pen. The shop assistant was letting her try the different nibs, explained how to fill and cl ..read more

Hello, this is Fountain Pen Researcher. While developing PEEK (tan) and Ultem grips, I decided to try the PEEK black material. Although the material color is black, It is somewhat unusual in that it is silvery black. Since the design of the grip section is nib-housingless type, Precision is very important. Normally, 0.01mm precision is optimal. 0.02mm precision in the minus direction is not acceptible.   so, with the new material, I observed its precision I was able to achieve acceptible precision 0.01mm or 0.02mm positive direction. Stable i ..read more

Ultem grip section (8 types) have been developed.   I wanted to develop 14 types like Peek, but Due to a shortage of materials, only 8 types were selected and developed. Ultem is a transparent material so you can see the inside. It was more difficult than usual, because internal areas must be machined as clean as possible. Due to the transparent nature of the material, you can see, Depth at which the nib is installed, How the feed looks like in action, Converter installation status, etc. can be observed, I felt it was completel ..read more

Help Identifying mystery pen-

Hi all-   I recently started digging into my old collection of pens (after being in storage since ~2012), and found this one that I can't figure anything out about.  I wouldn't mind knowing what manufacturer it is, but more importantly, what sort of converter I can put into it.   Other than the nib, which is labeled 'bock', the pen has no markings.  I believe I actually bought it off of here ~12 years ago now.  The body and cap are carbon fiber, with a sizable protrusion of black/silver out the back.  The clip is plain steel, and the top of the cap is black.   ..read more

Recently, the cap band of my Platinum 3776 Celluloid fountain pen fell off without my noticing and appears definitely lost. I wonder if it is possible to buy a replacement cap band and if so where to find one. Does Platinum have a spare part service? Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome ..read more

Abeete "automatic inking" fountain pen

I saw this on a YouTube channel, and I was intrigued enough to buy one ($28 on Amazon), pronounced "a beet" apparently. It's made by a Chinese company (Shanghai Youshang Stationery Co., Ltd), and consists of a demonstrator plastic pen that bears some similarity to a Lamy Vista, and an ink bottle. The gimmick is that you can only fill the pen by removing the pen cap and the bottle's cap, and inserting the back of the pen into the open top of the ink bottle. There is a needle in the ink bottle, and a corresponding hole in the back of the pen. You hold down the big orange collar of the ink bottle ..read more
