One of the questions I get asked most often as a World War II travel expert is: “Is it OK to visit WW2 sites with kids?” Followed by: “Can I? Should I? Is it appropriate? Help!”
While I do not have children myself, I am still able to answer these questions in an objective way and provide the information necessary for you to make these decisions yourself. And because I answer this so often, I decided to put all my advice into one single post to hopefully help the most people.

As in the rest of the country, you can find a number of WWII sites in Phoenix, Arizona (and the surrounding areas of Mesa, Scottsdale, and Tempe) that showcase the pride the United States has for its past generations.
Arizona being the namesake of the ship most associated with the start of the war (for Americans) and Phoenix being the capital means there is no shortage of World War II history to explore in the area.

Most WWII travelers know about visiting Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany and Auschwitz in Poland, but not everyone knows you can visit Terezín Concentration Camp from Prague in the Czech Republic.
The sad reality about the Nazi concentration camp system is that it was a vast network of over 1,000 camps and subcamps spread across much of Europe. What this means today is that travelers have ample opportunities to explore this horrific past up-close. In other words, you don’t need to be traveling through Germany or Poland to visit sites like these.

Of all the World War II sites in Italy, those in the city of Cassino are among the most noteworthy. (Monte Cassino itself is arguably one of the most visited WWII sites in the whole country.) Conveniently located halfway between Rome and Naples, Cassino is easy to visit and offers enough WWII history for an enriching day or two on your Italy road trip.
