I appreciate that engaging an Interior Designer is a daunting step for many people. They are often concerned that their job is too small or that it will be expensive to employ an interior designer or that they won’t like the end result. They needn’t worry, as interior designers such as myself are happy to work on any size projects whether it is simply helping to select paint colours or overseeing a floor to ceiling renovation. An Interior Designer will actually save you money by helping you to make the correct design decisions & to make well thought out purchases. They will put you in touc ..read more

The challenge… Take a grand 1950s residence & create modern home. The main living area should nod to the past in scale only, this room should be warm & bathed in light. Please reinstate the original wall panelling & mantel somewhere else in the house.               The solution… Replace single-glazed windows & bi folding doors with befitting large double-glazed panes. Strip the floors back to the original Tasmania oak colour & finish in 2k invisible protect. Install an efficient Chazelles HP800L combustion fire. Render the ..read more

Just south of Hobart, interior designer Kylie Sargent worked her magic to transform this humble 80s South Arm holiday shack into a modern day retreat. With a focus on staying within a tight budget a complete makeover was achieved. The once-dull beige walls, bricks and yellowing timber doors, skirtings, and architraves were revitalized with a fresh coat of Dulux® Lexicon Quarter, while the front door received a stylish touch with Dulux® Monument. Experience the stunning transformation brought to life by interior designer Kylie Sargent in this charming retreat near Hobart.       ..read more

Never under estimate the power of paint!  The majority of this dramatic Torquay home transformation was achieved just by painting. Inside the exposed brickwork (with the exception of the formal dinning room) was simply painted out in Dulux natural white. The trusses, window frames & doors were then highlighted in black. Smaller tweaks included replacing the door furniture with matt black lever sets, replacing carpet in the minor bedroom wings, updating the window coverings & adding feature light fittings. Outside the exterior timber was painted in Monument & the landscaping wa ..read more

Clutter is the enemy of interior design so I like to live & work by the 19th century designer William Morris’s famed quote: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” This doesn’t come naturally to everyone so here’s some of the advice I share with my clients who are seeking to rid their homes of clutter… Do a little bit every day Just sorting out one small space, cleaning out one cupboard or parting with one item each day will help you work towards decluttering your home without being overwhelmed. My clients had extended & renovated the rest of their Geelong home some years earlier, leaving their ensuite, master bedroom storage & bathroom untouched… it was time to bring these spaces to life again as they had grown sad! The master bedroom was updated with custom designed & built cabinetry + a more soothing paint colour. To most effectively use the compact space in the ensuite I replaced the corner shower with a full size tiled in-situ shower & the cabinetry with a floating custom made piece. Remarkably there is now much more storage & a much bigger shower but the room ..read more
