Thank Folk For That have always celebrated Caitlin Rose. She’s a unique force of nature, off-kilter and less conventional than other proponents of the Nashville scene. You could say she was one of our first loves, prompting this site to exist in the first place, so it is only right that Caitlin will be our very last review. This isn’t Caitlin Rose’s very first show back in the UK after her extended hiatus, but it feels like it. There’s a buzz of anticipation as she mounts the stage. It’s a sell-out this evening and the Deaf Institute is a bit sweaty to say the least, and so it should be; the N ..read more

All good things must come to an end and with great sadness, today is the day we bow out. Thank Folk For That has been 12 years in the making and over that time, we have made some incredible memories. More than that, we have heard and reviewed some of the greatest songs and albums ever created, by some of the finest bands and artists the world has had the pleasure of knowing. We have met and interviewed some glorious individuals and collectives, attended gigs and festivals that will last long in the memory, and experienced moments of pure ecstasy and emotion on stage. We have even hosted our ow ..read more

Ben Howard releases his fifth studio album, Is It? on the 16th June 2023 through Island Records. In the Summer of 2022, Ben and his band recorded Is It? over 10 days in the Le Manoir de Léon studios, nestled between Bordeaux and Biarritz, in the South of France. The album is introduced by ‘Couldn’t Make It Up’. Produced by Bullion (Westerman, Nilüfer Yanya, Orlando Weeks), ‘Couldn’t Make It Up’ is the first track of that ten-song record, exploring music after Ben experienced two mini strokes (TIAs). ‘Is it?’ is a lush, sonically splintered album which captures Howard working through those mome ..read more

Folk-pop duo Bear’s Den return once again to announce the details of their new EP First Loves, showcased by the emotionally-charged new single “Evelyn”. While the Bear’s Den anthology to date has been cemented within the more romantic and heartfelt aesthetics this last decade, ‘First Loves’ has become an opportunity for the duo to contemplate some of the more seldom seen elements of falling in love and the turmoil that can come with it. Previewed by the new lead single “Evelyn”, this opening track is about two people falling in love in very different ways and with very different people. With E ..read more

Josienne Clarke has released “Anyone But Me,” the final single from her new album Onliness (songs of solitude and singularity), out today, Friday, April 14th via Corduroy Punk Records. Darkly urgent, with distorted guitars reframing its folk origins to create a whole new sound for Clarke, “Anyone But Me” is a study in possessiveness. The song’s grim and ominous music video directed by Alec Bowman_Clarke is a fitting visual companion as it follows the end of a marriage. “Maybe I just watched too many Hitchcock films in lockdown, but when I was commissioned to make a video for this song, I knew ..read more

Album Review: Fenne Lily – Big Picture
Thank Folk For That
by Thank Folk For That

Some straight facts, straight from the top; Fenne Lily is a UK-born, USA-based singer songwriter. Big Picture is her third full album. It is, however, the first to be written across the breadth of a relationship, rather than as a retrospective. As a result it more accurately, more honestly, depicts the ups and downs of a real relationship. It is honest. As is Lily when she explains that ““Writing this album was my attempt at bringing some kind of order to the disaster that was 2020. By documenting the most vulnerable parts of that time, I felt like I reclaimed some kind of autonomy.” That aut ..read more
