We were on the beach at Arnside on Thursday and I saw what I thought might be a dinasaur footprint. The attached show the footprint and the location on the beach. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Category: Palaeontology Attachments:  Arnside%20Dino%20Foot.jpg  20240905_123503.jpg ..read more

Coral fossil & others

The recent storm has washed up a lot of Carboniferous stuff today.  I found a (presumably) solitary coral - it seems to have a very simple structure; keyed out to zaphrentoids but I’m really not sure!  Also a bit of limestone that looks like somebody emptied their toolbox - I think brachiopod impressions in with polo-mint like fossils - are they crinoids or corals?  And what are the strands that look like copper wire please? (I should be better than this by now ?). Thanks for looking. Category: Your Finds ..read more

Hi everyone, Found these pieces of timber side by side at Robin Hoods Bay, I've glued the pieces together and used a mixture of superglue, mudstone dust and fly-tying wax to fill. A little black ink pen seals the deal. Very sparse beeswax finish. Can you guys see my crack ? Jimmy. Category: Preparation, Preservation ..read more

Hi, I’m new to this and finding it all so fascinating. I don’t have a clue what I’m doing tbh but would love to learn more about geology. I live in the South Tyneside and was wondering if anyone knows of any groups or classes I could attend or recommendations for good websites or identification apps. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thank you kay Category: Hints and Tips ..read more

I found this which is quite a bit bigger than the other ones I have found so far.  A passer by who claimed to be a fossil enthusiast told me it was one of the largest species found in the UK, and commonly found around Reighton.  He didn’t know the name of the species.  Is this true, and if yes, what is the species?
