Hello, I’ve recently been to a kaolin exposure in west georgia USA, that contains fossil shells. I Collected some and I believe they are the shells of the genus turritella. Kaolin in georgia dates from the late Cretaceous to Eocene periods, and I don’t think kaolin preserves foraminifera, so the age can’t be determined exactly so I don’t know what age it is exactly but based on a geologic map of Georgia I looked at there was Cretaceous and minor paleocene, and Eocene deposits as well. I was hoping someone with southeast fossil knowledge could help me with what species my turritella shells are ..read more

I found this odd fossil jutting out of a weathered large landscaping stone, probably locally quarried from just north of San Antonio, TX. House key for scale. I'm thinking Inoperna? That same stone has lots of worm tubes and other little conglomerated bivalves. Thanks for any input ..read more

Hi Group, I have no idea what is this. Is it possibly a stromatolite? maybe is it a moss or something? My father a collector had it, he was in commercial navy 50's-80's so this could originate from anywhere, but most of his fossils were from Morocco and Brasil. size: (approx.)  :     10.7 cm X 8.2 cm X 3.7 cm weight: 299 grams No any reaction on UV lamp, nothing glows As always any help very much appreciated ..read more

Itching to go hunting today. For various reasons, normal hunting companions were not available. Decided to go to a place on the Peace River that is easy access,  have not been there in a while , and mostly produces small colorful shark teeth from the Miocene and little else.   I did find the colorful teeth,  not as many or as pristine  as previously. Note the silicified shell, urchin spines, and ray teeth. Add in silicified bone and a couple of times in the past , that is 100% of what I found.  Very little mixing with Pleistocene fauna in this spot. A couple of years b ..read more

Hi Friends. I would really appreciate if you could answer a fossil question for me. I purchased a Bolivian fossil from someone in Bolivia. They said it was a crinoid, but could not provide any other details. I wonder if anyone has any idea what its genus and species is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
