I found this near the Ladonia fossil park a few months ago, just the very tip was peaking up out of some sand. It's persistently bugged me ever since because, as you can see, there's actually very little area where the bone surface is not preserved, and yet I can't make heads of tails of it.
IT's about 10cm/4inches from corner to corner, I'll treat this as an approximate cube and walk through the 6 sides:
The "top" as I happened to find it has a straited texture and is fairly flat and complete except for a growth that starts on the right-hand side as shown below and is clea ..read more

I found some interesting fossils along Rte 209 in Kingston, NY. It's big high road cut in dark maroon shale mapped as middle Devonian Hamilton Group (others say Marcellus shale). Lots of bivalves that I've been calling Palaeoneilo. But similar ones I've come across on this site people are calling Nuculites or Nuculoidea. I included some pictures of these and others: three brachiopods, a trace fossil or plant fossil, and a possibly different bivalve. Any ideas on ID is greatly appreciated.

I see it does extensively split the various genus and unfortunately the plates are of poor quality. I have to admit I am very frustrated with the contradictions in scholarly literature that one can find. I principally used the University of Florida website and ..read more

I recently learned that some of my geodes are actually fossils. I've been looking at a lot of pictures and this appears to be a crinoid to me but it is large. The ruler is blurry but it's 12 inches. Any help in understanding the difference between a geode rock and a geodized fossil would be fabulous.  ..read more
