It's the end of an era!

I have some very big news. After 11 very happy years I’ve decided to close Cloud Craft.  I set up this business to share my love for craft and so that I could be around more when my children were small. It’s been such a wonderful journey watching both the business and my kids grow, and I’m so grateful to have had this chance and to be part of this creative, supportive community. Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about the future and have had this niggling feeling that won’t go away - I need to start a new chapter. I realise that I no longer have a passion for business that I once had. Be ..read more

Christmas 2022 Embroidery Kits!
Cloud Craft Blog
by cloudcraftshop Admin

It's been my absolute pleasure this year to design a range of Christmas decorations. All of them have our 100% wool felt and DMC threads and have been carefully thought through so that the decorations will be a joy to make and will be treasured for years to come.  Some of the kits are to make Christmas tree ornaments with our 100% wool felt. The gingerbread kit comes with the designs printed on soluble stabiliser - you just stick the design onto the felt and stitch over the top, then when you're finished it simply dissolves away with water. For the Santa and Jumper ornaments, here the st ..read more

One of my favourite things about embroidery (and there are many!) is how portable it is - usually there's little equipment that you need and you don't need electricity or anything heavy. If you're planning to take some soothing stitching with you on your travels, to pass the time on a long train journey or zone out under a beach umbrella, here are our top tips for taking your hobby out and about. Plan ahead Think about what you'd like to stitch while you're away and how much time you think you'll have to devote to embroidery. Choose a project that fits in with that - download the pattern and ..read more

New Cloud Craft Cross Stitch Kits!
Cloud Craft Blog
by cloudcraftshop Admin

Making craft kits takes a loooong time! So much thought and work goes into the perfect design that works well in stitch, choosing the best supplies, stitching samples (then stitching them again!) and perfecting the instructions and packaging. It can be frustrating because sometimes the ideas in our minds don't work as a kit, but when it comes together it's wonderful. After a year of planning, we've just launched 4 cross stitch kits, based on beautiful art work by Carole from Maggie Magoo Designs. I've collaborated with Carole before on some needle minder designs and I knew ho ..read more

Keep your needles safe and sound inside this needlepoint needle book! A great way to learn needlepoint, this project uses plastic canvas, three colours and two simple needlepoint stitches to create an adorable gingham design. Making a new stitching accessory is always fun, and having a place to hold your needles is always smart.       The pattern for the gingham stitching is easy to remember so you don't need to keep looking at a chart. Plus, it's a pretty fast project, so you can make these for all your stitching friends, and maybe even pair it with a magn ..read more

Bargello is back! Book review and giveaway
Cloud Craft Blog

Have you heard of Bargello? It's a a needlework technique dating back to Florence in the 1600s (it's also known as Florentine embroidery). It saw a massive revival in the 1960s and 70s, where the trend saw this stitching on clothes, interiors, tablecloths and bed linens. Groovy! In the last couple of years it's seen a revival. If you want to have a go at this addictive craft, Nerissa Pratt has just released a beautiful book, called Bargello, which will teach you all you need to know to get started. I've been sent a copy of the book to review. The first thing I was drawn to is the gorgeous ..read more

Add some handcrafted Scandinavian flare to your tree with these adorable embroidered felt ornaments! Celebrating our favourite craft, they feature little embroidery thread bobbins and a sparkly embroidery hoop fit for Christmas.  What stitcher doesn't want these ornaments for their festive decor?!? With thanks to Mollie Johanson for this tutorial.       It can be tricking cutting small felt pieces or stiff materials like our glitter felt, so for this project we recommend using freezer paper. For this technique you trace templates on the paper, the i ..read more
