Thanks! I haven’t associated your handle with a name yet – do we know each other? I downloaded your ROM dump – thanks! I confirmed on the photo that the data bits for 1-4 are separate from 5-8, and that Q7 and Q8 are not connected, at least on the solder side. That seems consistent with 6 bits of MSB/LSB in each group (1-4, 6-8) or ROMs. That only leaves a question about which ROM bit goes to each bit on the 6100. I’m inclined to suspect these are monotonically (in order) assigned, so the question is which is MSB. I tried swapping the bits end-for-end, but the result wasn’t better. There were ..read more

I found this and first thought of a joke. But it seems to be real. But extremely rare. Never heard of it before. Why is DOS 4 considered terrible?

I consider all DOS horrid for the lack full IRQ support, mostly on the serial ports. The brain dead 286 did nothing, to give linear memory addressing. By the time the 386 came out, microsoft was pushing windows thus one never seemed have a a real DOS and no 16 bit segments ..read more

Hackaday – 26 Apr 24 Microsoft Updates MS-DOS GitHub Repo To 4.0 We’re not 100% sure which phase of Microsoft’s “Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish” gameplan this represents, but just yesterday the Redmond software giant decided to grace us … Comments here and about amount to ‘sure they only release the source for the terrible versions of DOS.’ or ‘Wake me up when it’s 6.22.’ IIRC the source also includes the attempts at multi-tasking and by my reckoning isn’t this going to be helpful to projects like freeDOS, DOSbox and the like regardless? Or even just someone wanting to make patch files becau ..read more

Oh it’s you Vince. You have a great site! Yes it’s from my Festo project. There are 8 ROMs and there are 2 possible combinations. Pairs 7-3 8-4 5-1 6-2 as shown or less likely halfs swapped as 51627384. I don’t have any 6031/6041 or 6036/6046 instructions. (I do have 6033 but no JMP or transfer.) Maybe in my case 6407/6411/6415. I’ve sent you a link to the ROM. (Empty page filled with NOPs, header and footer added) Thanks very much for your time! A brief summary of the tables I found: 742-777: functional units and allowed device’s operations, latter ones in the first half word 1000-1777: table ..read more

I think there will be many interested in purchasing. Museums like donations (or low prices). But probably you want some money. I would try ebay. There are some options for a start price. Including hidden minimum price or first start with a higher price and later reduce. (Auctions). I guess a collector would pay maybe 300-400 EUR or even much more. (Not me). Depending on your location (UK? US?) the shipping and other fees might be very high for some. Ebay also have some cons (like high buyers protection). Especially when selling outside your country. You can also ask how much someone is willing ..read more

That’s awesome! Very well done indeed! I shall definately be selling the Intercept unit- but I’ve no clue as to the best place to offer it or any idea of it’s value. Ebay seems a logical option, but it’s possible that this item is just a bit too ‘niche’ to attract interest ..read more

I’m trying to gradually come up to speed with what you are doing, and what is done already. At first I thought the code snippets were from the Kokavecz machine, but now I think they are from your Festo project? I tried again to follow the Festo thread. If I understand that correctly, there was a set of ROMs, with 6 bits of each byte used, presumably in pairs to make 12 bit words. It would be awesome if there was a .zip or similar somewhere with the ROM contents. In the meantime, I’d look for sequences like these: 6031/6041 /skip if ready JMP .-1 /wait for ready 6036/6046 /transfer a byte Here ..read more
