Hi, I contracted HSV2 genitally two years ago. Unfortunately, I am a case where I get monthly OBs. They are mild and go away quickly, but none the less the virus presents itself regularly. Often around my menses (I am female). Recently my partner who is also HSV2 positive genitally (he has been for 20 years and gets no OB while on medication and only got 1-2 a year otherwise) performed oral on me and then some bumps turned up in his mouth. I ended up with an OB shortly thereafter as well. My OB and prodromal symptoms did not follow their usual pattern unfortunately, and there was no OB present ..read more

What is the likelihood (%) of transmitting GHSV1 to my partner? I’ve had it for 9 years, and we’ve been together for 8. As far as we know, he’s negative. I’ve experienced only one outbreak (my initial OB) and currently take a daily dose of 1000mg valacyclovir. We used condoms during our first year together ..read more

Yes, she was likely positive for a while. About 70% of those who test accurately positive for HSV 1 report no symptoms so this is not a surprise. Why does she think you have HSV 2? I thought she tested positive for HSV 1, not HSV 2.And you have a negative test for both and she has no HSV testing done, is that right? I’m confused. Terri ..read more

Hi Terri, Thank you for your response. I may not do the Western Blot immediately to give myself some time to be in the right headspace, but I do have an appointment set up with you and I ordered the kit so I believe that should arrive soon ..read more

Prodromes don’t last for weeks. You really need a swab test of the rash and/or a western blot. The bubbling under the skin is concerning but I don’t really know what to make of this – you need better lab work to be done to clarify. Terri ..read more

Maine is tough. But we can work on it. With an index value of 1.61, you could be infected but there is probably a 75% chance that a positive is a false positive at the value. In terms of the inhibition assay, I now have 19 false positive IA’s and 39 true positives – that is, the IA and blot agree. I’m guessing we might send you to a local hospital for a blood draw, if that might work for all concerned. Terri ..read more

Terri I don’t know how I’m going to get through her being in underwear and me not thinking I’m going to give it to my daughter everytime she sits on my lap even though we are both obviously clothed. Sometimes I get vaginal discharge on my underwear and so I’m worried it will spread that way and somehow go through all layers of clothing. She did pee her undies on my lap so I’m worried that made it easier for the virus to get to her because it’s mixed with the urine now. I am on daily 500 mg of Valtrex with no known outbreak but I have bad ocd ..read more
